Honestly, probably a good thing we lost. I believe the last few teams that went undefeated in the preseason were the 16-17 Avs (winning only 22 games that year) and last year‘s Coyotes (which speak for themselves).

I’ve been somewhat of a Bear apologist in the past, thinking he had it in him to be 2nd pair material. After this pre-season though, ick. He’s showing bad all around.

With Coghlan and Pesce injured, even if the boo boos are minor, I can’t see them dealing Bear just yet. That’s assuming they could get anything of value for him. That may make them end up placing both Pacioretty and Gardiner on LTIR if they want to retain Stepan.

Watched most of the game. Here are my impressions:

Drury looked good in the circle; still needs to work on his skating. His defense was very solid IMO.
Coghlan had one or two brain farts before getting hurt; still not bad enough to kick him out of the 7 defenders that likely make the team
Stromwall has a great shot, but he made at least 3 ill-advised passes and had at least 1 missed assignment. I'd be surprised if he made the squad
De Haan was active but he also made a couple of bad passes; didn't see him miss an assignment, however
Noesen didn't help his case any IMO, but Stepan wasn't lights out either. He did seem to be in the right place at the right time, but also tried to do too much given his speed.
I thought Chatfield started slowly, but he got better as the game wore on.
Tuuka Tieksola got about 9 minutes of ice time, but I felt he made the most of it. I saw a kid with composure, clean, accurate passes, and no real mistakes. I think he should have gotten an assist on the Rees goal. He was the guy who centered it in front of the net.
Dzingel is Chicago bound, but didn't look terrible; he just didn't do anything to help his case
Kotkaniemi was like the Dad out there, doing all he could, sometimes probably trying too hard and/or things he wasn't capable of
Lajoie and Mendel were neither impressive nor mistake-ridden. Both are solid, but I'm not sure they are NHLers
Pederson and Mattheos were kind of blah....
Rees and Ponomarev were very good considering the support cast. It's going to be hard to send them down, but they should/might see some games in the NHL this season.

Then there was Ethan Bear.....I just don't get it....he's been given every chance to earn a place, but he just doesn't have it. He's not a fast skater, his decision-making is still suspect, and there's not really a physical aspect to his game. I hate to say this, but if Coghlan isn't seriously injured and we can't find a taker for Bear's contract, I'd easily put him on waivers, hoping some other team makes him their problem.

Rod showed his coaching chops with adjustments in the 2nd and 3rd period. Glad this was the last pre-season game. The team needs to have the Day 1 squad working together; I believe this is a good team that can go as far as any we've iced.

I didn't watch much of the 2nd or 3rd, but saw Koochie didn't allow any more goals. Was he getting peppered with high quality chances against left and right like the first period? I didn't think any of the goals were his fault, at least 2 were just guys 1 on the goalie, forget the 3rd. He had some really nice robberies too on great chances. Hopefully he kept that up the rest of the game.

No, he didn't face a lot of heat over the last two periods. Some in the third, but very little in the second.
