Chicago screwed up royally!

Yes it’s a miss but lots of teams missed on Hutson
Understood obviously, but we are talking about the Blackhawks in this thread, so we aren't going to deflect criticism to other teams here.

I make a big point about Hutson and the Blackhawks because everyone knew he was a top 15 talent but wasn't ranked that high due to size. Regardless, the Blackhawks had extra picks to take the elite talent local kid and they didn't, that stings.

I liked Hage more at the draft and he's looked very good at Michigan this season. lol- But all I do is read what the analysts say so I wouldn't put too much stock in my opinion.
So what you're saying is that you're essentially the same as the 99.5% of the other posters here? Thanks for letting me know, I was worried. :D

Levshunov was a weird pick. Nowhere near good enough to justify skipping on Demidov. Also likely prevents them from drafting Schaefer this year.

Hindsight is always like this though

He was a fine pick. He was generally listed at 3rd on pro lists before the draft and had very few lists where he wasn't in the top 5.

Hawks passed on a Russian with a high pick. So did Anaheim and Columbus. So did multiple teams the year prior with Michkov, including Montreal (who had redeemed themselves a bit with selecting Demidov). It happens a lot.

I don't think having Lev will affect if they draft Schaefer. It's always BPA that early in the draft. If Hawks need to move a D, probably Korchinski (similar type, though less talented of a player), and hopefully get some forward help. But passing on MS because they drafted a D high a year prior? No.

You’re absolutely right about drafting the BPA. If they do draft Schaefer trading Korchinski makes sense.

That being said I feel that logic wasn’t used last year. Levshunov seems like a very safe pick but I know there are some doubts about his upside.

They may have just had Lev a touch higher on their board. Or maybe they were scared of not having control of Demidov's development. I don't know.

I do know that they aren't picking a Russian with their 1st this year, so they won't have that influence their decision.
