my guess is Davidson went there to try and make a deal and was presented with not much and this is the result. we retain salary on Mikko and get a 3rd pick back. Carolina is going to be much better with Rantanan. Will be interesting to see how Necas is deployed in Colorado.

We should probably also look at the other teams who were talking to Buffalo about Mittlestadt prior to last year’s trade to Colorado, as well as Chicago…. when it comes to the Avs. That’s who they’re almost certainly watching.

Chicago was one of those teams. So was Calgary, Detroit and Winnipeg. He’s been so bad defensively though, not sure those other 3 would still be interested. So Chicago might be the top destination for Mittlestadt.

No way Colorado keeps him now. Not at $5.6 million. Drury is an interesting piece, they might be able to flip at the deadline for a 3C with some term too, but he can turn into one of those 3C types they’re looking for.

The Avs aren’t done. That’s safe to say. Don’t be surprised if they’re not in on Chiarot if he’s gonna be moved too. As well as Murphy from Chicago.

So a 3C who can also play wing, up and down the lineup, giving them some secondary scoring, but who plays a great 200’ game, and a Dman with a little toughness, who can be a sidekick on their 2nd pairing or carry their 3rd pairing. One who can play either side.

Laughton might be worth watching, although he’s not able to move around the lineup without losing some of his defensive ability. Copp or Compher from Detroit, Pageau from Isles, etc, etc. Nelson would be a coup, but can’t see Lou moving him. Don’t think they’ll touch the Pittsburgh guys but that’s another team who’d likely be interested in Mittlestadt.

Donato could be a rental the Avs look at but Murphy in some type of Mittlestadt deal wouldn’t be out of the question. The Hawks need to be smart here though cause if Mittlestadt doesn’t turn things around, that’s not a contract they want sitting there for that term. He’s gotta be who they’re interested in though.
