They should host it far away. The less enemy crowd the better.

If you're talking about Canadians, they could have the tournament in Bolivia and they'd still show up.

Due to the crowds around the game and the police presence regulating traffic, the area immediately around the UC isn't that bad on game days. If you go further west especially, though.... yeah, not the safest.

My recommendation would be to stay on Madison heading east or to be part of one of the many clumps of people heading to/from either the Pink Line or the Blue Line before and after a game if you feel unsafe. And I'm sure that if a major international event was held in the UC, Chicago would also redouble their efforts to keep the area especially safer for tourists to keep the cash flowing into the coffers as much as possible, so there'd be a big police presence, I'm sure.

Granted, thinking way too far ahead on this one. Chicago has to beat out other quality bids to land the world juniors.

I'd love for Chicago to host it. Short train ride to see an awesome tournament. I would be all over that.

@usahockey - Buffalo - Chicago - Pittsburgh - St. Louis - Tampa named finalists to host 2018 IIHF World Juniors.

USA Hockey today named Chicago, Illinois - Buffalo, New York - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - St. Louis, Missouri - Tampa, Florida as finalists to host the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Mike Bertsch - assistant executive director of marketing, communications and events for USA Hockey - noted USA Hockey will have the host selected by the end of the year.
“We’ll likely further narrow the field in the next 60 days-then conduct in-person visits before making a final decision.”

If they're looking for a festive outdoor atmosphere they'll most definitely go with Buffalo. They've invested over $175m in their Canalside district right outside their arena and it would make the perfect place to hold additional activities for the event. There's replica canals in the streets for ice skating and ice bikes, as well as a large public plaza for additional events. With 2 brand new rinks attached to the arena and 2 new hotels, restaurants, and bars within 1/10th mile of the arena it would make sense, especially after the success of the combine and the womens tourney held there this year.

Just wondering, how much would a tournament like this cost to attend? I've been wanting to go to one for a while and I was wondering how much I would need to save approximately.

This is probably going to be one of the better World Junior Tournaments in/for a while.

Wise/Wilde are probably going to be on this team. How lit would Chicago be though if the USA won the world juniors

I'm hoping for Buffalo or Pittsburgh but would settle for Chicago. I've been waiting for this tourney to be somewhere near Cleveland. I just started watching the tourney a few years ago and missed the previous Buffalo tourney hosting.

Tampa is too far for me. St. Louis? Nah.

Come on Buffalo or Pittsburgh!
