As far as I'm aware, Chicago, Buffalo, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay are the applicants so far.

And I'd be very excited to see us host them. Just have to wonder if the Wirtz's would partner up with Allstate Arena (capacity: 16,692) or if their past acrimonious relationship with the AHL Wolves that play there would force them into using a significantly smaller venue as a secondary site, like Sears Centre (capacity: 8,362), Edge Ice Arena (claimed capacity of 3,000), or a more distant venue.

How many cities have applied so far? I know that Tampa sent in an application.

If you want to trust wikipedia, the current candidates are Detroit, TB, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Chicago.

I said this on the Hawks board, but I'm assuming it's up to USA Hockey to push one of them forward (b/c Hockey Canada is who decides which CDN city to put it in).

I suppose any of them could get it - and I don't know how USA Hockey prioritizes this sort of thing. Buffalo has that new complex, I think; Buff & Det are border cities - but idk if USA Hockey would even care; there are a lot of Cdns happy to go to FL in the winter; Pittsburgh seems like the odd man out.

I would like to see it go to Chicago  :handclap:

Detroit or Buffalo would be the smart spots to have it if you want to increase attendance(ie right across the Canadian border). Pittsburgh might be close enough

I'm opposed to USAH hosting this event if its success is dependent on proximity to the Canadian border. Time to sink or swim on your own, folks. But looking forward to the day when L.A hosts a WJHC. I'd go to that.

I would like to see it held away from the border, even though it's very funny to see USA booed in USA when playing against Canada. Small ice for the Canadian players, but much less pressure. Also interesting to see what attendance would be like - hopefully pretty good.

Chicago being a huge hockey market and more so the Chicagoland suburbs being huge in hockey all the way down to Kankakee and Peoria/Bloomington I think they'd be fine. Not to mention Wisconsn, Michigan close by I think the crowd would be pretty PRO USA.

Chicago is 4 hrs plus from the border. Is that quite enough inoculation?

I think there would be a good turnout in Chicago. I would guess its not to hard for Canadians to fly into Chicago either.

Although you will get a good amount of Canadians flying to any city in the US, you bound to get double the amount of Canadians showing up at a border city(especially one close to Southern Ontario)

I find most fans around here to be fans of the Hawks (and the Wolves to a lesser degree) more so than the sport of hockey itself so this would be an interesting experiment. No doubt there is enough interest that the USA games at a large venue like the UC would be sold out; however, unless creative ticket packaging was used (perhaps with ambitious marketing towards the youth hockey programs) I imagine non-USA games would be modestly attended. Nonetheless, on a selfish note it would be great to watch Canada WJHC games for a reasonable price.

I would gladly attend but anything < pro hockey just doesn't draw that well.

Steel (USHL) can't draw flies, the outdoor college hockey games have flopped since the first go around.

I'd love to see it but w/o huge out of town influx, I think it will not do well.

The Wolves don't even draw in the playoffs due to huge dropoff in group sales due to uncertainty of playoff dates.

Ya, I can live with Chi town.... but come on, a 4 hour drive? that's hardly any distance at all...most Canadians can do that in their sleep...especially for a hockey game. but I love to drive and with 2 cross country treks under my belt.

I'm just getting the hockey itch now and looking forward seeing some live action at the summer camp in a few weeks. currently living off McDavid highlights from last year.

I live in Thunder Bay which would be the closest city from West of Lake Superior. We a good 10 1/2 hour drive to Chicago. Sault Ste. Marie(east of Lake Superior) is roughly 7 hours. Toronto would be closer to 8 hours while Windsor is 4(London would be closer to 6). You basically looking at deep deep southern Ontario, as opposed to All of Southern Ontario if it was Detroit in terms of driving distance.

By Comparison Winnipeg to Grand Forks, ND was only 2 1/2 hours
