Because we are talking about whiskey. First time I heard about rye and pepsi, which I think is a Canadian thing, was back in 2008. I had just moved to Tokyo to work, and I was going to different expat bars that some travel guide listed. In one of those place I was sitting at the bar and a Canadian guy sat next to me. He asked for crown royal and pepsi, and was really strict to get it right.
We started talking, and it turned out that he was on leave from some mission to Afghanistan. He was a bit drunk already and said his plan was to visit every bar that was mentioned in his travel guide. He said he remembered being in Vancouver after flying there from Afghanistan, and then waking up in Taiwan. And then he flew to Tokyo. He showed me his passport that said "Special passport" on the cover page, and he had some government credit card he didnt know the pin code. That was a problem but eventually the bar managed to get the payments accepted with his signature.
Needles to say, we ended up drinking quite a lot, and I think that's the only time Canadian government has paid my drinks. At some point, he was so drunk that the bar owner drove him to his hotel with his scooter. The bar owner was from Iran, and that was another thing we talked about a lot. He said he's persian, not Iranian, and didn't have anything good to say about Iranian government.

Canadian here and can confirm my drink of choice is Rye and Coke (f*** Pepsi up it's disgusting ass). It was what my dad made when I grew up and I would try it every now and then and eventually that's what I started making for myself.
You should also use a low(ish) quality rye when making it, not bottom of the barrel swill, but like a lower quality ($20 for a 750 ml bottle).
I've had rum and Coke's as well as that's usually more popular, but I find it too sweet, much prefer rye and Coke.
I remember that guy sipping his rye and pepsi like it was a $100 wine bottle, and happily saying now this is good.

Well, because of all the trade wars and stuff and taxes, a bottle of Jack Daniels costs 40€ here. And there's not a lot of rye even available, need to pay at least 50€ for one. Works both ways I guess, scotch is relatively cheaper here.
I'd love to have more bourbon and rye available here

I missed this one, forgot it was an afternoon game and took sleeping pills at 6am because insomnia... nice to see we scored more than 3, and that several players including Coronato and Zary had 2 point games

Skin of teeth win. I’ve never seen 4 goals more impossible to stop. 2 back door tap ins, a cross ice one timer by somebody named bedard, and another cross ice strong side one timer. Wtf was that defence lol. Anyways, Zary and Coronato were great again. I really think the former could be a dynamic 60-70 pt #2C. He’s put up goals, but he’s a solid playermaker and could take another step if he has that dynamic finisher on his wing. Huby was also solid, one of his most dynamic games as a flame.

Pepsi is indeed ass. Sickeningly sweet and flat in a millisecond. I think they actually swapped recipes in 2007 or about there. Had always been a Pepsi fan but that year they switched to high fructose cornsyrop (I believe, going from memory). Then Coke seemed to take on the taste old Pepsi had, less sweet and more fizzy. So I switched to Coke, never went back. Hate in pubs or restaurants when they dont serve Coke and only have Pepsi. Usually do gingerale then.
4 points in his 8 game call up, seems happy and is playing his style of hockey again which is great to see. Honestly plenty of players to bring up with their recent play, young and old. Over their last 10 games:
Huberdeau: 13 points ( 4 multi-point efforts)
Kadri: 9 points
Zary: 8 points
Coronato: 8 points
Coleman: 7 points
Backlund: 6 points
Coronato has taken some serious steps lately, he is trying to remind everyone why he was seen as our best forward prospect previously. Only Backlund, Huberdeau, and Kadri have played more than him recently too.

I did the same, my pops drank Black Velvet or Canadian Club and Coke, I think he liked that Black Velvet was made locally, he'd give me 2 really weak drinks a year (my bday and new years) starting when I turned 13, because he wanted me to learn I could have 1 drink and stop. Each year the drinks got a tiny bit stronger, and when I was 15 he let me go out knowing I'd be drinking under the conditions that he knew where I was and that I would call him if I didn't have a sober ride home... he continued the latter (for me and my brother) until he had to stop driving in 2023, about 6 months before he passed.
To this day, I still drink rye and coke, I've upgraded from the swill he drank and I drank when I was young (Royal Reserve), so more mid-whiskeys, usually it's Crown Royal, 40 Creek or Gibsons.
I used to drink run and coke too, but when I was 19, I got completely shit faced on a bottle of 151 and to this day the taste of rum makes me want to vomit.
