Proposal: Chi-Tor

Why would the leafs pick get worse if he plays less that 50% of the games?
If hes injury prone hes a bad asset to the leafs so we give a lower pick based on him being unreliable for us

If he plays more than the set % threshold, 50% in this case, the injury risk isnt met and we give a better pick up

What the OP says is If he plays 30 games then leafs give a 2026 4th

If he plays 41 games we give a 5th

Why would we pay more for an easier cutoff/lower sample

no

It doesnt make sense because the 5th in 2025 will already be picked by the time the % of games is played but thats not even what your arguing against.

Leafs need a long term C and Ryan Donato doesn't really move the needle for the Leafs. Murphy is good value at 2M but forward help is needed more than defense at this point.

Isnt the 5th a 2026 5th in the OP?

Murphy plays 41 games or more its a 2026 5th for some reason

Murphy pays less than 41 games its a 2026 4th

That looks backwards. Should be the otherway around

He edited it.

Yes, that would be the injury insurance for the maple leafs. They want him to play more than 50% of the games. In the case that he cant play your return would end up higher to even out the deal.

To :leafs
C/W Ryan Donato
D Connor Murphy (50% retained)
Conditional 2026 5th (Becomes 2026 4th if Murphy plays in less than 50% of games next year for Leafs)

To :hawks
Leafs 2026 1st
Panthers 2025 2nd

Basically, repeat the McCabe/Lafferty deal

Counter

Jones 3.75M retained (Not 50%)

for

2026 1st
Domi
Reaves
Prospect not named Ahkyamatov, Danford, Cowan or Minten or an additional draft pick

Reason I bring this up is the Athletic was talking about there being interest in Seth Jones but to generate 1-2 real assets, it would involve them retaining 50%, this isn't 50%...and they're motivated to lose the contract.

Hawks aren't motivated at all to lose Jones contract. Not at all. Angry fans that don't understand rebuilds are motivated to lose the contract. If it does happen it won't be much retention if at all which is why he's staying. They have a cap floor to get to and a UFA Marner to sign.

Depends on the night, he's 2nd pair / #4 being paid like a #1 guy that can carry a whole defense. Can drive you absolutely nuts.

Then why do you want a #4 D at 5.75 M until 2030? That's not cheap for a declining asset. He is better than Morgan Rielly right now.

The market for RD isn't amazing.

Murphy's mobility isn't there anymore.

I suppose if it's not addressed at the TDL then Kovacevic would be target #1 in UFA.

Hoping the Rielly we saw on this road trip is the Rielly we get the rest of the way.
