Proposal: Chi-Tor

It's an OK proposal. I think the value is fair enough.

But I don't think Toronto needs an upgrade on Timmins badly enough to pull the trigger. There's no need to add to the blueline unless it's a top pair guy who is a difference maker (at a much higher cost, obviously).

If Toronto is trading young forward depth, it should be for a more sure-thing solution for their forward group now. That's the current need.

You trying to claim Timmons makes Chicago’s top 7 next year and into the future is laughable.

But then again I read your posts it’s no surprise.
Maybe sometime before you die you’ll have a good team (in April, May and June) to root for. … but don’t hold your breath.

Oh, suddenly the comment makes sense. I won't waste my time here then

By some Leafs fans account Tanev, OEL, Tavares, McCabe are all slowing down. Worth nothing with retention

Huh? Which leaf fans? These guys are playing some of the best hockey of their careers (Esp Tavares and McCabe.. Tanev and OEL I think just doing what they do)

I don't think the Leafs needs are on defense at this point. Of course could always improve but they need help up front badly. I would prefer the cap space and assets to stay for that.

Also, who is this upgrading? We're paying Minten to upgrade on Timmins? IDK I don't see this as some huge upgrade worth the price for us.

You trying to say Hawks have better defense than Toronto? Laughable
You sure about that? Reilly has been a huge disappointment this season.

As for the trade proposal, I think the Leafs decline. I’m a Hawks fan and have always felt Murphy was a little overrated. At this point if an acquiring team is taking on his full cap hit I can’t see the Hawks getting more than a 3rd for him, especially with his injury concerns/history. With 50% retention perhaps that gets bumped up to a 2nd. If you were to package Jason Dickinson with him then I think you could definitely get a 1st or perhaps a 2nd and Minten.

Trades generally involve two teams, sorry to say.

Of course you are. And in your world, every team should shake Treliving’s hand and then bow down to him for giving up their valuable players for garbage. Many such cases.

In the real world, teams need to give up value for value.
You keep trying to dunk on me like I am the one that made an offer for Murphy and am trying to convince you to take it. All I've said is that I do not want to give up Minten. I am as entitled to that opinion as you are to your opinion that Murphy is worth that package. Let's just leave it there.

Attempts to reverse an argument like this hardly ever work out. All of those guys are doing what they've done for their entire careers. The only exception is OEL, who has seemingly accepted his 4/5 defence man role, and we are paying him as such.

Am I sure that the team that middle of the pack in offense and has held 1st in the Atlantic for 3/4 of the season has a better defense than a team in competition got 1st OA? Yeah I am.

I just don't think these are the type of dmen the Leafs need. They are 32nd in the league for offense from their D. Their defense is very good at actual defense. They need offense and not offense like Barrie but someone who won't get caved in non sheltered minutes but can produce on the PP.

Instead of trying to get that unicorn, better off addressing the forward group. It needs help badly. We need guys who can score.

Reversing and argument was an attempt to make you realize that just because some fans on online boards are down on a player doesn't mean their value is crumbled.
As if TML don't shit on their players after every loss in Post game threads

No, you ran Murphy down with still unproven anecdotes and then tried to tout Minten as more valuable. I could quote you again if you want.

Stating that something you read on a message board is a fact != opinion, but I'll take that as an admission you made it up and don't want to (or can't) argue further.

To :leafs
D Connor Murphy (50% retained)

To :hawks
C Fraser Minten
D Connor Timmins

Leafs get RD in Murphy at 50% for the rest of this year and next

Hawks get a young C in Minten with good upside and a warm body in Timmins to finish out year for Hawks at RD in Murphy's spot

Murphy has a modified NTC (10 team) but likely not difficult to get him to go to Toronto given Leafs are pursuing a cup while Hawks are abysmal. Murphy is not getting younger and may only have a few more years left to play so wasting his career on losers has to weigh a bit on him at this point I would imagine

Thoughts?
It's not bad, but I'd try to find a way to replace Minten's value there. 2025 2nd + Steeves or Niemela or Danford for example. Steeves has been a bit of a later bloomer at 25, still with the Marlies, but is leading the AHL in goal scoring, and added some physicality to his game. I think he's a NHL player, so him and a 2nd probably equals Minten's value. But I think the value is pretty close.

I feel like Murphy was a hot trade chip a handful of years ago but all I've heard about him lately from Hawks fans is how cooked he is...
