- Devils get 3rd line C they have been looking for and recoup a 2027 3rd round pick (They traded away own)
- Hawks acquire a young NHL proven talent we can put at RW to play on a 3rd line with Mikheyev and Moore potentially (I think Mikheyev-Moore-Mercer would have potential to be great 3rd line)

Hockey trade here as Devils fill need at C and Hawks get a young NHL RW whose age fit with team we are building here

Dickinson was injured for large chunk of season (Mercer played in 82 games, Dickinson in 59)

And I would hope a guy like Mercer who saw time in top 6 would have more pts than a 3rd line C who missed large chunk of year with injury

Mercer has also struggled last 2 years in NJ and has proven incapable of being a C (What he was drafted to play)

Point is the Devils need a 3rd line C and absence of one was very glaring need late in season and playoffs

I'd consider swapping them

I thought of putting Reichel in here instead of pick, but Devils appear to have glut of LW options

Not even saying this is a good trade for NJ to make, but it has more to do with age than anything else. He was injured. When he was healthy in 2023 he had a similar season to Mercer.

Mercer is the defnitiion of a depth middle 6 guy. A good contract. Good for 15-20 goals, never gets hurt, can play up and down the lineup and RW or C. Is better at RW. Why would we deal depth for depth??

I think the Devs could probably convince the Avs to move Ross Colton who has an extra year at similar price for less. RC has a NMC but would gladly waive to play at home. A year younger and more pts than JD.

Mercer is not a C. He’s terrible at C. The NJD have a dire need for a legitimate 3C. If Mercer was one, they’d wouldn’t trade him….

If I'm the devils, I feel like I'm shooting higher than Dickinson at 3c. JG Pageau, maybe. I just don't know that there's enough of a push over Glass and Haula with Dickinson. He does score more goals, so that is something, but I don't know that there's enough here to make me dump Mercer. I feel like it wouldn't be crazy to be able to get someone like Pageau for a prospect and pick. Same for Ross Colton.

I'd just rather have Mercer here.

Mercer should improve his skating. I think with better skating he could be effective as a 3C. Maybe he should practice with Bratt's skating coach.

If the Devils will trade Mercer, I hope they don't trade him for anyone who is over 30 years old. I don't want another Zacha for Haula trade where we get two good seasons from that player and then we start discussing how we get rid of him because he has regressed.
