Canadiens need a RHD and seems unlikely Ekblad will sign there. Hawks may wish to take another spin with Dach, who still has top-6 talent and is an RFA after this season.

Hawks trade Connor Murphy + 2025 Dallas 2nd to Canadiens for Kirby Dach.

Thoughts? (I'm usually bad at this.)

Doesn't seem like the framework of a trade either team would make tbh. Don't think Chicago wants Dach back and Murphy doesn't really fit the age range Montreal would be looking at in a RHD trade. They'd probably look at lower level RHD in the UFA market.

I don't think Dach is a bust. He shouldn't have been drafted at 3OA, but we still don't know what kind of player he is over a full season when healthy.

He's going into his D+7 and we're still saying "Well we don't know how good he'll be once healthy"...

No surprise Hawks fans aren't interested in Dach, and frankly it's better for the Habs to use this season as a last shot for him to establish himself as a top 6 player.

Murphy is an interesting target though, I wonder if a deal around Roy for Murphy could work for both sides... Bedard & Roy had great chemistry & mutual respect for each other's game from their WJC experience. Roy may be on the outside looking in with Habs winger depth.

Imagine Hawks would want +, question is how much +?

Doubt they want Dach but Montreal may offer 17 for this instead? If Hawks take Price's contract?

Dude. He's just a place holder 'til Mailloux, Reinbacher or Konyushkov are ready to take over our Right Side. Things wouldn't be so bad if we hadn't traded Kovacevic for basically nothing. We have ONE NHL level RD right now. That's it.
