To :cbj
C/W Lukas Reichel (1 x $1.2M)
Stars 2025 2nd round pick (Will fall in 61-64 overall spot)

To :hawks
RW Yegor Chinakhov (1 x $2.2M)
Jackets 2025 3rd round pick (77th overall)

- Hawks get a RW who has flashed potential at times but has had injury issues thru years. Is 24 and will turn 25 during season so it may be getting close to make/break for him (Health plays big factor). Hawks downgrade late 2nd to 3rd given Chinakhov has flashed more consistent talent offensively at NHL level and has higher upside there IMO

- Jackets get a C/W (Reichel has played all 3 forward positions in NHL) who is over a year younger than Chinakhov and is also half cost. Reichel has been frustrating to watch flashing his potential at times but not following up off it. Having multiple coaches and being utilized mostly as 4th line center this past season hasn't helped his development either. Jackets make jump back into late 2nd (Have no 2nd round pick) for this coming draft as part of trade

Both guys get change of scenery and new organizations can run with them in more appropriate settings to see if the players thrive or not (Hawks have two RW spots in top 9 open Chinakhov could be utilized in potentially, Reichel not being utilized as a 4th line C would be improvement for kid)

Thoughts?

I don't think Columbus do this. It would be selling low on Chinakhov and a season being fit would likely mean he is worth more than this. He showed enough when playing to suggest he could well be a 25-30 goal scorer if he manages 82 games.

Plus giving up a 2nd for a 3rd isn't going to be attractive.

You may want to take another look at your formatting. As written, you have the Blackhawks player going to the Blackhawks and the Jackets player going to the Jackets.

It's also a bad deal that Columbus turns down, but you probably knew that, too.

so Blackhawks get the better player and better pick? Maybe keep players but change Blackhawks pick to a 2nd and Columbus to the 3rd rd

Sorry about that

Had woken up not long before that and posted here while eating breakfast

Yeah pretty much what the consensus is. Chinakov when healthy is a valuable player.

They also moved on from their long term strength and conditioning coach to try and deal with the high amount of injuries that is constantly an issue for this team

We have a few of those so depending upon how Chinakov is viewed health wise we have Wyatt Kaiser, Nolan Allan, Louis Crevier and Ethan Del Mastro all in the AHL with varying stints with the Hawks. All are close if not ready for a full time gig in the NHL.
I find it hard to believe Ethan del Mastro would be available but that is definitely a deal I'd make as a Jackets fan.

The Chinakhov - Monahan - Marchenko line was the best in the NHL at one point this season. He needs to focus on staying healthy and training this summer, but Columbus should at least give him this year to try.

I love what he brings to the table but I'm starting to lose faith he can stay on the ice.

Especially when they really couldn't find anything wrong with him last year and he still missed like 60 games.

First time in forever we can say Columbus is not very desperate for centers and much rather needs help on defense.

That said, I still want to see Chinakhov for a full healthy season before trying to trade him

Problem is Chinakhov can’t stay healthy for a full season.

Missed 39 games alone to an upper body injury, also missed time with a back injury and an ankle injury this season.

Hence why trade value is at the lowest, and I don’t think it’s a good idea to move him now
It would have to be worth CBJ's while. A need or part of a bigger trade. Unless someone has an often injured player with high upside, I agree. 1 for 1 trades, picks or prospects just not really a need for CBJ, but Chinakhov is likely worth more than a random change of scenery player.

i know most CBJ fans disagree with me on this but i think chinakhov will for sure get moved this summer and i don't think the return will be anything crazy.

portzline mentioned that the team was frustrated that he took so long to come back from his injury, and it was also reported around the TDL that his injury wasn't anything structural.

those both felt like FO leaks that would indicate that he's not in their plans moving forward, but maybe i'm reading into it too much.

he's an impactful player when he's healthy, and he has runway to keep improving if he can stay in the lineup. the details in his game need some work but the speed/shot/skill combo is very good, and he's strong as hell on his skates.

Completely agree. It's so frustrating, he's probably our fastest skater and our hardest shot, but if you can't stay healthy it means nothing.

It's obvious how much DW values durability from watching last summer. I think he's gone too. It'll be selling low so we shouldn't expect much in return.
