Toews is a straight up cancer. Wouldn't acquire him at any cost.

Also yeah, this does absolutely nothing for the Flames' cap situation. They need Monahan's cap hit off the books, not exchanged for a marginally better player but a much worse human being.

I have watched them. But still you are giving way too much credit for the GM people. If you are Oilers fan you should definitely know how incompetent and short sighted general managers really are.

Aren’t you doing the same thing by pretending to know how GMs will act?

Posted this on the Detroit board:

Monahan
2022 2nd
Phillips

For

Dallas 2024 4th
Stephens

Might be the worsts one yet. The Flames have spent years developing Phillips. He's just now starting to look stronger and playing above a PPG in the AHL...but now they are just going to throw him away, without even being given a chance in the NHL, to save themselves a $2 mil/year cap hit?

Monahan
2022 2nd

for

Future Considerations

This is the high point for any Monahan trade, the 2nd rounder. As others have stated, some team may still take him for free.

I don't think that post was meant to be insulting. They probably assumed Phillips is a long shot late round nothing throw in vs quietly ready to take the next step if the chance comes up (ie: Lomberg).

I'll admit as well that I know nothing about the prospect Stephen's that was suggested from their side.

The reason to get rid of Monahan is to have his cap hit, not to shuffle chairs.

I honestly wonder whether a bad team with cap space might take a gamble on Monahan next year, hoping he can bounce back and then they can trade him at 50% at the deadline for assets. Personally I don't expect the bounce back, but it seems like the type of move a GM could make. I can see a GM giving Calgary a mid round pick and hoping to turn it into a 2nd or something.

This can’t be a real take

Monahan has 1 yr left. No need for the Flames to extend another year with Teows

If they can’t trade him, they will waive and buy him out for cap space to sign their more important FAs

In the perfect world, he should have been Kucheroved but they made a mistake and kept playing him.

Sorry my bad, In that case, I'd take Toews but I dont think the Flames have the cap space.
Monahan can bet bought out, Toews buyout makes no sense. I'd rather have Monahan. That being said, Toews is the better player. Both players are so far from their contract value, that the prime consideration with either player is getting out of the contract.

Yeah the Flames can’t afford either one.

But if I have to have one, I would take Toews because Monahan is done in Calgary. There is not a good fit for him anywhere
