Proposal: CHI-CBJ

It really depends on how high his offensive ceiling ends up. He can clearly defend at a top end level already. But it's whether he will be able to produce offensively that will separate him from a Tanev like player and H. Lindholm type player
I think he his offensive game has improved and could put up 40 points in a season but likely won't. It's not looking like he'll get PP1 time as long as Jones is around. But ironically, the PP looked much better with Vlasic at the point when Jones was hurt than it does with Jones there.

I think his slap shot has been clocked at 101 mph or something like that too.

No interest on my part. In a vacuum I prefer Jones over Severson. But…..

His AAV is even higher than Severson’s the former is considered a top line pairing guy. That leads me to this concern. Since Jones left, Werenski has emerged as a true #1 and a leader, the role previously held by Jones. How would a Jones return impact that changed dynamic? I’m not sure I’m interested in finding out.

I think I'd rather keep Fabbro and find someone who'll play well with Severson instead. I liked Jones but he's been steadily downhill for a while now.

I'm not against it, dread the thought of Severson year 5 being on the bottom pairing. And the falling off may turn around in Evason system.

I'll be the contrarian and say yes.

If the tradeoff is taking back a bad contract like Severson, Chicago would be better off trading Jones @ 50% retained. A team on the cusp would probably give up a lot for that.

It would have to be a lot. Retaining $4.75M in cap space for another 5 years is a tough pill to swallow.
Agreed. And perhaps I'm wrong about Jones' capability, but if a team that already had a solid 1st pair could drop in Jones as the #3 at a bargain cap hit, it would be worth a sizeable haul.

If I were the Jackets I’d take the deal. I think the Hawks could do better though, especially if they retain.

Not something I imagine ever happening but if it somehow did I'd keep Jones away from Werenski. That wasn't even a pair I was the biggest fan of in the past
