Proposal: CHI-CBJ

Well this will be fun. The untouchables.

Both teams kinda in the same boat right now where the contracts aren't an issue currently. How will that change in the next 2-3 years? Severson's contract runs one year longer but it's also "only" a cap hit of 6.25M.

I might bite as a CBJ fan to see if Jones-Werenski pair would still work, and if so, we'd be set on the blueline for years.

I doubt Jones waives and same thing goes for Severson.
Jones does not want to play through the Blackhawks rebuild.

Severson is being scratched.

Have to imagine neither of them are thrilled with where they are.

Has he said this or are you just assuming? AFAIK he's been happy in Chicago. Also none of the Hawks OFD prospects are ready to take that 1D role from him yet. Maybe they move Jones in a year or 2 but probably to a contender

The Blackhawks have an ongoing documentary series, and any time Jones is interviewed it's him whining. He's been pretty transparent about not wanting to be on a losing team. And as a leader, I think he's lost the room.

Vlasic is already the 1D.

I mean if they both waive absolutely...I could actually see this happening from an front office view point but the problem here is more at a personal level than a play level that would strike down the deal.

I'll have to check it out (and forward it to my father since he's a lifelong Hawks fan).

Vlasic is the good long term #2. He's a great defensive dman but he's not a PP1 guy. He's more like a Devon Toews type player

What am I missing here? Jones seems to be a better younger player with less years left on his contract. Severson is getting healthy scratched while Jones is playing 25 minutes a game. Why would the blackhawks make this trade?

Sure, but I'm saying that currently Vlasic is the best defenseman on the roster. That includes on the PP, he outperforms Jones.

Lower cap hit.

Jones' cap hit is going to be a problem for them eventually. Best to get ahead of it now if they can.

Blackhawks also need to address the locker room situation right now.

When is Jones' cap hit going to be a problem? Outside of Bedard, who's going to demand a large % of the salary cap? Isn't the cap going up, too?

Salary cap is the LEAST of Chicagos worries when it comes to Seth and I'm done getting burned by trades with Columbus.

Eat some of his contract and get an actual valuable asset. I feel like Seth is a perfect malcontent for the NYR - send him there.

Jones already decided against Columbus, why should they take him back/why would he want to go back?

Severson just signed a long contract, suee he sucks but he has no real need to waive, getting paid big money either way.

I think Seth Jones would actually love to be a Blue Jacket again. Above all he doesn't want to wait through the Hawks rebuild.

But I question if he's really the right type of role model to bring in. When you look at his buds like Jenner and Werenski, they're constantly working on their games and finding things to improve. Meanwhile (in my estimation) Jones' skills have gradually eroded since about 2017.

And I'm not a Severson hater, he's actually good (usually). He's also not a leader, but I don't think he has that pretension about him. And at his more modest cap hit, it's less of an issue if he is playing further down the lineup. I don't want to have that fight with Seth Jones.

This is really a spot on comp for him. The only obvious difference is the size
