Trade #1

To :sabres
W Phillip Kurashev (RFA)
To :hawks
C Sam Lafferty (1 x $2M)
Sabres 2025 5th round pick

Kurashev after good year last year has completely shit bed and has no future with Hawks at this point. Hawks tried to sign Lafferty this past summer and he was well liked/productive in Chicago so I could see them looking to circle back to him as they move on from various vets via trade likely (Hall, Donato) or FA at end of year (Maroon, Smith). Hawks have no 2025 5th round pick (Interestingly enough traded to Leafs along with Lafferty)

For Sabres they move Lafferty contract out at small price since he hasn't really worked out for them at this point and get a few months of Kurashev who maybe gets his game on track and they consider bringing him back on a 1 yr deal or something if they desire. If not they simply walk away in offseason

Trade #2

To :isles
W Lukas Reichel (1 x $1.2M)

To :hawks
Islanders 2027 4th round pick

It's clear things aren't working out for Reichel in Chicago part of it is on him, but some is on Hawks (He has been forced into 4th line C role all year). Isles could use some youth on roster and taking gamble on Reichel would be smart. Signed thru next year at low cost as well

Hawks recoup 2027 4th rounder after trading away own 2027 4th rounder (In Mikyehev deal)

Trade #3

To :devils
LW Taylor Hall (50% Retention)

To :hawks
Jets 2025 2nd round pick (Prev acquired by Devils)
C Samu Salminen

Devils bring back Hall for vet wing depth for playoff run

Hawks get another 2025 2nd and add a prospect in Salminin who they have been able to get look at playing for Denver as teammate to Hawks prospect Aidan Thompson

I don't see any reason the Sabres would do this. Lafferty being overpaid by a mil isn't an issue, we have oodles of cap space we aren't using already. We can still use Lafferty's physicality in the bottom 6 but don't need more "meh" wingers. We are overflowing with "meh" wingers. The guy is 25 years old and aside from one outlier season (where his shooting % is nearly double the previous two seasons) he is a 20-25 point player.

We don't need to pay a pick (even one as low as a fifth) to swap lafferty for this guy.

You’ve covered it succinctly.

As a sabres fan I would make the trade because like you said maybe Kurashev picks it up in the second half but its not really something thats gonna make a difference on the ice for Buffalo.

Most sabres fans would probably drive Lafferty to the airport.

Surely the Hawks have more crap that you throw in here and add a Rangers trade, no?

what’s wrong with Reichel’s game that he’s reduced to a 4th? Giving me former high pick turned draft bust vibes based on this. Isles could use youth but if it’s a defensively inept young player, no real interest. Oliver Wahlstrom was dragged around long enough to do that.

Honestly dont know

His game fell apart last year as his confidence cratered under Richardson and then the Hawks hammered this nonsense of basically being grinder, etc into him and continued to move him to C a role he isn't suited for

He did play well for stretches this year on 4th line with vets but the fact Hawks have not seen to put him in top 9 since coaching change makes it clear he has no future here

He was also inherited by Davidson (He was Bowman pick) so one cant discount that Davidson was never big fan to begin with but didn't move him because at time our prospect pool was rather devoid of talent

As a Sabres fan the trade while not terrible value wise, seems kinda pointless, barely worth the trouble. I'd be more interested in sthg. around Murphy.

Last time the Isles made a trade like this they got Engvall from the Leafs for a third round pick. We know how that ended. I’ve got PTSD from the contract that followed.

For that reason alone, no thanks.

You don’t want another overyhped former high draft pick for the fanbase to claim he needs 87 more chances with Barzal eventhough the last 5500 were a disaster? I wonder if they’ll swap assistant coaches with us instead. We get the real former #27 and the Hawks get the father of a 4th liner.

Devs ain't spending that on Hall!

This trade I wouldn't do, yes Reichel been bad or nothing but I would try him in top 9 until our top 9 producing something.

I wouldn’t give reichel up for essentially nothing. May as well keep him the rest of the year and let him walk if that’s all we are getting. Maybe he shows something after the tdl

I don’t think Hall fills a particular need for the Devils to pay that price. Personally, I would only offer a 3rd + prospect like Salminen at most.

Devils bigger needs are forwards who can finish and/or a potential 3C option. Hall is more or less a lot of what the Devils have, guys who create a ton of chances but aren’t the best finishers.

There could be some value in adding Hall as a 3LW, but we’d still need a 3C since Haula isn’t cutting it this year. It still wouldn’t address the Devils issues of turning expected goals into goals.
