byram doesn't have durability issues. he's played every game for buffalo since being traded here.

Maybe he's finally past them and grown out of it, but maybe he's not. :dunno: A couple solid years of staying healthy is a promising sign...but his earlier career was marred by injuries and durability issues. When i'm coughing up the 4th overall pick, i'd still at least have that history nagging in the back of my mind a bit.

How about this for Byram....

He goes to Buffalo and they are a 'rebuilding' team spinning their wheels trying to take the next step... he slogs through some difficult years then once they finally breakthrough and are a great team.... he's traded to another team in the same position Buffalo was in when he got there.

I'm sure he's happy with the opportunity to lead a Dcore. Its an interesting thought tho.

Chicago has to do more now I'd think. This is a great piece but it isn't going to be enough.

This is a pretty terrible draft guys. Like just outright bad. Not at all surprised we've seen four trades involving top 10 picks for 2026 and kinda expect we might even see a couple more.

That being said I still can't wrap my head around the Blackhawks assuming this amount of risk with a Byram acquisition. He really hasn't been much special at the NHL level and at any given moment is one bad hit away from missing the season.

I think there is 5-6 really good players at the top of the draft though. McKenna, Stenberg, Malhotra, Reid, Bjorck, Carels. All could be 1st line players. To get one of those picks and then add ontop of it is pretty crazy.

I agree the 7-15 picks are often overrated value-wise in the public eye though. Its probably good we are seeing them start to move again. If you can get a top line player those 6-10 picks definitely aren't as valuable.

It's the deeply discounted version of a Temu Coffey-to-Pittsburgh deal. I'm sure Bedard is happy though as he'll have someone jumpstarting the offense and helping rove to keep play alive in the offensive zone.

Doesn’t change the fact that Byram hasn’t shown anything to suggest he’s gonna be worth 12.5M and be paid as a top 10D for those years…
You could make the case Byram was better than Toews when the Avs won the Cup. He was better than Toews in the finals vs Tampa.

Trading picks has nothing to do with quality of the draft. It's GMs thinking that Free Agency won't have many options available, and as a result, they're paying a premium to secure options ahead of time.
