I simply asked it to rank the first rounds for each draft. I have only included the names for each list, except on 2020 I provided an expanded list to show it’s “reasoning.”

It provided the following caveat prior to ranking each draft:

Ranking the first round of the NHL draft can be subjective and varies based on player performance and potential. Here’s a revised ranking based on their performance up to now…

…These rankings are based on observed performance and development trajectories up to now. They might continue to evolve as these players’ careers progress.

what criteria did it possibly use to place connor brickley ahead of brett connolly i wonder
his compensatory pick for not being signed was used to draft hronek? brickley should be at the bottom of every list.

Overall it's a pretty solid list near the top at first glance

The 3 biggest names that jumped out:

Adam Fox too low - he should definitely be above Laine at least

Both Quinn and Jack Hughes too low - both should be#1 in their draft. Even if a few prefer Dahlin to Quinn - he's #2 at worst

Any reason why it seems to have forgot Taylor Hall for 2010?
I think they call these random errors “hallucinations.”

No idea how it really came to these conclusions, as there are glaring errors on pretty much every list. It seems to generally value offence/stats and younger players putting up decent stats (see Galchenyuk) over well rounded/defensive players/late bloomers.

Alright so maybe I should have looked closer before posting. Quite a few more names jump out once you go beyond the top 4 or so.

Ahh that is a gut punch this morning. Rest in peace young man, nearly a year from your passing last August.
Yeah that one really stuck out. Yikes. That made me sad.

ChatGPT is not very good at tasks like this. Better at imaginary stuff.

Every year's list has something awful or stupid about it but it's AI so I was actually expecting worse.
