He has 4 goals and 6 points in his last 61 games. He can't PK or take faceoffs. He can barely skate, which means he's not an effective forechecker. He didn't even dress for a single playoff game in either cup run.
I don't want to rag on the guy, but I can't imagine he gets claimed. And even if he does, who cares? Puljujarvi is better.

Gadjo plays a role Pulju can't, is loved in the room, and would be claimed by another team if only to weaken our depth at this point of the season.
I come from Pulju's camp but won't bombard you with messages. Puljujarvi has some potential. Many fans thought (the evidence of that is in this forum) he was the best winger of the team in Penguins at the start of the season when he got to play in the 3rd line constantly. Almost ppg rate, excellent plusminus and advanced stats and great preseason and World Championships behind so nobody thought the benching and advise to concentrate on the defensive side of the game was really needed.
It's not a popular thing to say, but stats show that he had a period of 1,5 years when his ES goals/60 (and I believe also goals/60) was the 2nd highest of the team. His problem was inconsistency in production and health issues. If he gets it going he could steal a roster spot, but at least there's really nothing to lose for you guys. Now I'll watch and see so time will tell.

Every year a guy loved by the room has to go. Driedger, Vatrano, Duclair…
Gadjovich doesn’t serve a role. Enforcers are scratched in the playoffs.
Jesse gives us an NHL forward on the fourth line.
And no GM is going to waste a roster spot on Jonah Gadovich specifically to weaken our depth. That doesn’t even happy with good players.

And we’re bickering over 750k in cap space here. We have an extra roster spot right now, and there’s no roster limit after the TDL. Sign Jesse, give him a look, and if you really need those extra few dollars and he’s even worse than Gadjovich, just waive him. There is no down side here.

There is no roster limit, but you still have to be cap compliant until the playoffs start.
Yes Gadjo would be scratched in the playoffs like last season. But so would Puljujarvi. And if he did draw in, it would be on the 4th line and we would do better with someone like an Okposo.

Yes, but there's no guarantee that Zito will actually need the $250k(?) in accumulated cap space that Pulujarvi will take up. Unless Pulju's contract is prorated, but Puckpedia doesn't indicate that (I couldn't tell you the rules).
We have no idea what Zito will do at the TDL. He's shrewd and creative. Don't just expect him to utilize all our cap and the last of our futures for a rental RD. We also could have an injury that gives us extra space and need for another body. Hell, seven of our Top 9 forwards and two of our Top 3 defensemen at the 4 Nations. Let's take free depth if we get it.
I could easily see Puljujarvi pushing Nosek out of the lineup.
And yes, Okposo or Tarasenko would be ideal, but we don't have the cap space to take on a $2.5m Bottom 6er. And let's not take for granted how spoiled we are. Yes, players want to come here, which is why we get discounted contracts in the offseason and no-bid trades at the TDL.
Sometimes that player is Giroux caliber. This year our freebie might be Puljujarvi.
Second and for now the last post from me. This nhl.com article shows how well he did in the preseason. Then he played six games with solid TOI in the 3rd line, scoring 5 points in those 6 games and having his plusminus and advanced stats among the very best of the team.
But after that stretch (having scored 5 points in the last 5 games) Sullivan suddenly demotes him and drops his ice-time to under 10 minutes and even under 5 minutes. The advice he gave Puljujarvi was to concentrate on the defensive game. Pittsburg fans said that A) Sullivan hates Europeans and B) The bottom sixers don't get freedom to attack and they need to try to play 0-0. I mean that could make sense, who would demote a player at a ppg rate like that.
With Puljujarvi you don't break it if it works. As long as the stats are fine he's good for the team in his way. When the benching process started I wrote that this is exactly the way to kill his joy and confidence. So I feel he showed he can be a useful piece when things stay steady.
After the first games (and great preseason and World Championships behind) I thought I wouldn't be surprised if he had a 40-60 point season, which would've been pretty good in the Penguins 3rd line with low or no PP time. I still think he might be able to do that rate or even more if given a fair chance. Most Pitssburgh fans are first to say he didn't in the Penguins. You look at the posts from that time and fans kept saying the 3rd line at that time was the best 3rd line they'd had for ages and that Puljujarvi had a big role in that.

I'll also give my final post, which is a bit more negative. Yes, I'm sure that Sullivan jerked Puljujarvi around, and we all know how incompetent Edmonton was in the 2010s. But Jesse has to be in the top 0.1% of players who have been put in positions to succeed.
He slid down to fourth overall and was drafted by a team that had strong forwards to grow with--including the best player in the world and a Top 5 center in the world.
Then he went home for a year to regroup.
Then he was given a second chance with his original organization.
After that, he went to the Hurricanes--a very Finnish-friendly organization with a nontraditional approach and completely different environment from Edmonton.
Then, he was signed with his favorite team growing up and played with his boyhood idols--including the former best player in the world and another European, generational talent who had multiple cups.
Now he's got a chance with the reigning cup champions and best run organization in the NHL, which is famous for rejuvenating fringe NHLers and (again) is very Finn-friendly.
If he can't make it here, that's a shame.

Here's the Jesse timeline for you:
- Came to NHL too young and without any language skills
- Got better, but hips started to affect his play
- First small hip operation
- Played well for parts of two seasons
- Hips started bothering again, plays worse, traded to Carolina
- Carolina stint was a disaster because of the hips
- Major hip operation
- Started the season great with the Penguins
- Lost the trust of Sullivan, probably because he was not from Boston

It was bad for Puljujärvi when they traded Lars Eller to the Caps. Then when Jesse was a healthy scratch for a game or two, they suddenly started to win. After that he never got a real chance again.
Giroux was a ridiculous loser and Zito gave a 1st round pick for him. It's still most enjoyable to beat Ottawa because of that man.
