nino was streaky & never lived upto his 5th oa pick but i liked him as a secondary scorer. hope your right about stramel.
I think people underestimate how little of a sure thing drafting outside the top 2 is. Once you hit 3rd overall, there's a noticeable drop-off in how often players hit. A link showing percentages of milestones hit per draft position. Only about 1/3 of 5th overall picks ever hit 300 points or 700 games played. Seems like most guys drafted there probably end up being really decent 3rd liners. Not great, decent.In the 51 years of the NHL draft Nino is easily somewhere between the top 15 and 25 5 overall picks ever. He's 16th in points, 11th in goals, 13th in games, closing in on 1000 games in 2 years.
Now there are some D in goalies to contend with( notably Price and Bassaro), and some players younger than him that are clearly better (Notably Elias Petterson).
People overate top 10 picks because some hit big. Most don't. Nino is clearly an above average 5th overall pick
