i don't think their oblivious to the fact, I feel their well aware of it, and their contemplating rather or not to address it or start a re-tool. I hope they go re-tool mode, because imo unless they can land a big fish with term, I think they'll just be kicking the can down the road.

He has obvious skills and smarts but I wish he didn't skate too much like Ondrej Kase and still gets gassed a bit to easily, so it concerns me regarding increasing his chances of getting head shots.

Sounds like you don't know much about the competitive spirit of a professional athlete.

Clearly not as much as you do, but I've been managing non-sport teams for over 20 years and know for a fact that each individual has their personal motivators. Compensation is one of the many - that is a fact.

Let's not pretend like EVERY professional athlete's competitive spirit or motivators are built equally. I played hockey for a long time (not professionally) and can admit the beast who jumps on the ice is nowhere near that of the individual who goes to their 9-5 job the next day....but no one had to pay me 5-10X a doctor's salary to do it. Imagine if they did. Which is why most of us here struggle to understand how so many guys aren't pulling their weight this season.

I don't buy the whole "they just want to make the playoffs" narrative. It's a complete moot point if they spend to the cap. JJ doesn't care about 2-3 extra home games. Those long playoff runs are what lines his pockets. ticket prices are insanely expensive and everyone in the stands is spending money on beers and food. I'm pretty certain that "one and done" isn't in the business plan... which really shows the incompetence of the front office with all the 1st and 2nd round exits

Fenway and others have said this for several years that JJ would love another Cup. Shouldn't that, for once and all dispell the notion that he is cheap and only interested in the bottom line?

Since 2019, this mngt team has approached their jobs as such and dutyfully mortgaged the future because of JJ's desire, and it should cost them their jobs??

I'd venture Cam and Don would have approached the past five years differently if JJ was 20-years younger.

Yep, this team needs more scoring to outscore their collective mistakes, it's weird to break it down to a singular level as an excuse for why those guys might not be given a chance yet

The Jacobs family and Neely/Sweeney are a match made in heaven because they both want to operate the franchise conservatively. Jeremy wants to win Cups, but not at the risk of the bottom line. If you told him their profitability would drop for a few years, but you could guarantee that they more than make up for it on the back end, he'd absolutely support a rebuild/retool.

The problem is in the lack of confidence they can make that happen. I think the Jacobs family sees the local team in Buffalo's rebuild struggle and thinks they can't gamble on the same thing happening to them. That's why they haven't changed a management group who's playoff performance has significantly underperformed their regular season success over the past 10 years.

They've decided that the "safe" option is better than the risky one. However, in managing that way, they've made it so they'll inevitably experience the downside of the risky option, with none of the upside.

Yeah I’m not a fan of that answer. The team is 26th in the league in goals per game. Their power play is anemic and could benefit from a player who excels at zone entries.

If the team was winning despite a lack of offensive output, I could understand wanting to lean into that more straightforward, defense-oriented style of play. But they haven’t been.

What makes this answer all the more frustrating is the fact that after losing to the Panthers, Neely himself highlighted team speed as an area they needed to work on. He’s got what could be a potential answer in Lysell but he’d rather claim other teams’ unwanted players and call up the likes of McLaughlin than give the guy more than a 1 game showcase. How does that make any sense?
