Chaos Flite C-55 Skates

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about these skates. I have a need for a size 14-15 hockey skate and they are very difficult to come by at all. I do not intend to play, but need to help my son practice. Flite seems to be one of the few companies that has these sizes available for less than the price of new car!

Does anyone know anything about them? Anything I should really watch out for?

I am 6-3, but I wear a 15-16 street shoe depending on the maker. I had my feet measured at a pro shop and the left is a solid 13.5 and the right about a 12.5. So, a 14 might run a bit tight on the left whereas a 15 would probably be a bit too big on the right.

Why would 14 be tight? Your largest foot measures a 13.5...

My concern was that I am ordering online and wasn't sure if there 14 was accurate to another companies 14. You know, some companies run smaller or larger. My bigger concern is just that it is a half decent skate. After all, I am not intending to play, I just want to be comfortable though and help my young Gretzsky out. Had not heard of the company before and did not want to waste my money on some really shoddy pair of skates. They don't have to be great, just not terrible.

The C-55 will probably be a serviceable skate, but not great. Most likely a step above a rental.

I think that will work for me at this point, the learning point. Plus, they are not $500 which seems to be the only rate I can find for ginormous footed skates. I went ahead and ordered some, and I have to tell you, the service from the company was great. I had a question or two and the CEO emailed me back very quickly, checked the warehouse for my size, and was generally very responsive. Now, that does not mean a thing regarding quality of skate of course, but hopefully it is a good indicator overall.

Just my opinion but the reason you probably are not able to find a skate that big at a value is if you wear a skate that big you are probably a pretty heavy guy and you need a skate with with enough support/stiffness that it won't break down after a weekend of skating

I think it more has to do with the fact that at that size you're looking at a custom skate and most manufacturers only take custom orders for their top of the line skates (TotalOne, APX, CL).

None of the larger manufacturers produce a size 14 skate. The most is iirc, a size 13.

Graf's Supra 705 is produced in 13-15, however, should be too expensive for your needs.

Can you not custom order Bauers in larger sizes at all?

I don't know, I was just referring to retail sizes. Custom shouldn't even be an option for the OP, he's basically a rec skater at this point.

Flite Hockey has to be the worst company I've ever dealt with. I tried to give a 'smaller company' a chance and purchased their Chaos skate. I called to order as I wasn't sure of my size - so far so good.

10 days later I hadn't received a confirmation or delivery, so I emailed them. No response. I wait another few days. 2 weeks later I finally call them, get a 'sorry' and the skates are shipped out. I received them ~5 days later only to find the rivets are missing that hold the cowling to the boot! Good thing I noticed these as that could be very dangerous - ie, break your ankle!

I email them asking for a replacement, low and behold, no response. I finally call them again, and get a snarky response from Gerry, the owner. He was upset at me because I had sent him 3 emails in the interim (the ones he didn't respond to), I had said I was upset, and would be happy to post negative reviews if they weren't going to take care of the situation.

Long story short, he hung up on me, so I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company, and I am still working on getting my money back 3 months later.

I ended up buying some nice Bauers, and couldn't be happier. Steer clear of this hole of a company. Their products and customer service are horrible.

Flite C-55 Skates

If they are just for practice, it should be ok. I have had a pair for 2 years and am in the midst of replacing them. I wore a size 14. I will warn you the blade is fairly long (even for a skate that size), and the blade holders and the boot itself are kind of cheap.

The boot is stiff and takes quite a while to work in (the first couple of times, I thought I would hurt my ankle every time I tried to stop....for the price it might be expected...

Heh... I think this was my first post on these forums. Thanks for the feedback. I did get good service from the company, and have been wearing the skates for about a year now. They did require some break in time but I have had only a few issues to speak of. I should add that while I started off rec skating, I got sucked into hockey completely and wear them 2-3 times a week for hockey now.

The only real complaints I have are that I think the steel is pretty low grade. I have to sharpen up more frequently than I would like to and I suspect that a better grade of steel would not require that so often. I also had an issue with bent skate blades. I am not sure if that was from contact, or original from the first time I got them, but it happened regardless. Thanks to help on this forum though, I just took them to a pro shop and they straightened them up for me at no charge. Much better now. The only other issue I have had is that they are roughly the same weight as cinderblocks. Being big anyway, having to haul an extra pound or two on my skates is not helpful. I wonder if the higher line skates they make would be much better in terms of steel and weight. Might have to check that out. I just can't swing $400 or more on skates though and that seems to be a minimum from other makers on custom size skates. Hell, I can barely pay for the rest of my hockey gear.
