I have no statistical evidence to back either side up.

However, there is evidence out there to suggest that if a team is the constant beneficiary of "breaks", that team will, over time, take advantage of those "breaks". Once the "breaks" stop coming, the team falls apart almost immediately. A recent example is the 2008-09 Carolina Hurricanes.

I post this for discussion, mainly because I get, and from reading the GDT and Post-game threads, and others get a bit annoyed with those who keep saying "championship teams overcome bad calls". I'd really like to know where the evidence is that points to this being an absolute truth.

In this day and age, with technology the way it is, there is no excuse for "bad calls" unless leagues WANT to be able to influence the outcome.

Bottom line.....in ANY sporting event, the final score is the most important thing. Period. It's the deciding factor end result that determines who the better team is. If you can't get that right then what's the sense in any of it? Why even watch.

Dozens of HD cameras and monitors available, put the damn head official in the broadcast booth and have him call the game from there. No brainier calls can be made on the ice/field of play but ANYTHING that affects the score should be made by someone that can see a replay instantly.

I've had enough of this garbage.

It doesn't! Breaks are just that, breaks. The give the benefitting team a higher probability of success. In regards to last nights game, the main objective is to score goals. It takes a lot of hard work and determination to score in the NHL, let alone in the Stanley Cup Finals. When one of those breaks end up being something as monumental as a free goal, most teams will be crowned if they are awarded free goals!
