My nephew played youth hockey with a teammate who had a brother who won the Hobey Baker and chose to play in Europe. This players college coach turned down playing for his hometown Boston Bruins circa 1960.

Isn't just if not for injuries. In fact the other brother won the Hobey Baker before him and they both had the same youth hockey teammates who was better than the brothers got hurt really early (U14) and quit the sport, it does happen.
