Champions League Knockout Stage

Yeah after the 3rd goal Villa had 4 grade A chances to score
2.2 xG.
That includes the 3rd goal (something like 0,6) and the huge Asensio chance alone on Donna (0.5?),the Tielemans header (0.7?) and the Rashford shot (0.4?).
Aston Villa had 5 real chances the entire game.
Their first goal which was a dangerous situation and Tielemans had the luck of seeing his shot deflect into the goal.
The Asensio chance.
The Rashford shot.
Their 3rd goal.
The Tielemans header.
You can count the dangerous cross if you want but nobody could touch it.

Edit : forgot the last second shot. Can't tell if it was on target or not.

As for PSG they had their 2 goals which were 2 big chances (although Martinez fumbled the 1st one), the Doue alone on goal, the 3 Dembele shots in tight angles and the Hakimi chance.

If worse teams than Madrid (Villa and Dortmund) can almost come back against better teams than Arsenal (PSG and Barcelona)....

Regardless of what occurs today, I do think PSG take Arsenal. It's a good style matchup for PSG.

That shot was curling in far-post anyway, so, it was more lucky that the deflection still ended up going into the net where the initial shot was heading anyway, not that it was deflected in the first place.

I guess it wasn't a good style matchup a couple months ago.
I mean, like, correct? Arsenal started the season stronger and fitter, and PSG (especially in Europe) didn't really figure out what their post-Mbappe set-up and tactics were like until January?

"A couple" does a lot of heavy lifting when the first leg of the semis will have taken place (almost to the day) seven months after Arsenal played PSG. In the subsequent seven months (and especially since the turn of the year), things have clicked into place for a PSG side which was in transition, such that I think it is a good style matchup.

I take very little from a game that happened over half a year ago, when both of these sides were in pretty different places than they are now.

Madrid can definitely overcome the tie but it would be a Madrid that we haven’t seen yet this year. They’re performances have been truly awful

Whatever. If Arsenal pull through tonight there’s no need to be scared of any opponent. The confidence will be skyhigh.

There's a good chance Donna was on it.
He didn't have a say when it was deflected.

I'm not sure. I really have no idea how it can work out.
My son firmly believes that Arsenal is the worst team for PSG. Has said it for months.

It's nice to know that we can just handwave away results when they don't fit our argument. Just like handwaving away the results of league play where Arsenal finished well ahead PSG (and, for that matter, Aston Villa and Dortmund finished ahead of Real Madrid) when we want to call PSG better.

Mind you, Arsenal was without its full midfield against PSG back in October, but nevertheless.

PSG beat Liverpool which was 1st in the standings.
So that's a moot argument.

I'd hardly say PSG has a cakewalk against Arsenal.
But they should be slight favorites. Because in 2025, there's really an obvious impression that PSG has been way hotter than Arsenal and that their first encounter is long gone.
What Wee is saying is fair and in no way a certainty that PSG will win the tie.

Knocking out (if they do) Real in this tournament should automatically make you favorites in my book. I would say that about any team so no bias. No matter if you think that they’re not as good as they use to be it’s still their tournament.

It's important that Arsenal try and control the ball in midfield, which is a problem area for Real. If they park the bus Real can score 3+ goals against everyone. Arsenal need to keep to their possession play and they can go through.

Arsenal is hard to break down when they park the bus though.
Which is why PSG may have trouble.
I'm not sure Real can break them down if they defend 11 men against the ball.
