Champions League Knockout Stage

Argentina doesn't win the WC without Martinez. There's no denying that.
Or anything really.

Sometimes it better to laugh and move on. Maybe Arsenal can win something after their 10 cb purchase or keeper change.

Anyway Barca survived that half. No pedri killing us in the midfield but that was the same Barca as it was in 2019. Id get pedri on asap

I'd sub out Araujo, Cubarsi and Yamal at half time and sub in Garcia, Martinez and Pedri. We need some experience to close this out.

This tie could've been at least a bit more interesting if Dortmund could finish, like, at all. You can't have this many chances through three halves and only manage to score a penalty.

BVB caught Barca napping a bit at the start and got a deserved goal out of it. But they are running on pure desperation and Barca will close this out sooner or later on a counter.

Honestly I wouldn’t be sure. Barca should close this out but until they do the ptsd is gonna be there

A second goal in the first half could have made it interesting. Long shot now.

I always find it interesting watching the way bigger attacking mids who need to move deeper adapt, and Nmecha has become a really solid holding midfielder. The jesus freak uses his size and athleticism very well against the ball, and his ball skills help him hold it under pressure.

Beier & Adeyemi have been wasteful, Bensebaini seems ready to do something either fantastic or fantastically stupid, and the team isn't in-sync enough for Groß to be trying so many unnecessary one-touch passes.

Süle having his best game in years. Turning radius of a cruiseship still, but the big fella can really eat up the turf once aimed in the right direction.

Sure, if there was literally no one else in net, they'd probably lose, I'll give you that. In most cases, giving up three goals in a final isn't going to result in a win, though. Luckily, Martinez had a strong Argentina team in front of him capable of scoring three goals. And like I said, Martinez is legitimately great at PKs (although not good enough to avoid giving up 2 during actual gameplay).

He got scored on by two pens and an iconic volley (saveable but come on).
He prevented the Kolo goal with an iconic save.
Sure. Any goalkeeper could have got scored on by two pens and an iconic volley, though.

It's really just the Kolo save. I don't think making one save on a 1 v 1 makes you a world class goalie, even if that save leads to a trophy. Otherwise, Ortega would be world class for the save on Son last season. Maybe I just have higher standards for goalkeepers.

You said he was dragged to trophies.

That OG for Barca is big. It would have taken a lot to come back for Dortmund still, but they had momentum and the early second goal wasn't a good sign. Barca should be able to see this one out comfortably now.

PSG, on the other hand, must be anything but comfortable. Tie looked done and dusted and now they've gone and scored three unanswered.

He was! Like I said, most goalies won't win a final by giving up three goals. The fact that two of them are penalties - when that is his only elite attribute - doesn't really change the calculus. He was dragged because Argentina had a good enough offense to score three of their own.

To think about this in hockey terms, given the site, if a goalie gives up 5 goals and makes one big save then wins in the shootout, I'm not really giving that goalie credit for the win.

It’s literally just an agenda classic from him.
Like I said, I must just have higher standards to be a world class goalkeeper. To each their own.
