So much talent on this Checkers team. It's too bad for them that they didn't play for this franchise 3-4 years ago because a handful or two of them would be in the NHL with how bad we were.

To be honest with the talent we have I'm glad they didn't. Canes 3-4 years ago were a sad sack of mediocrity and these guys would have caught the fever.

I'm just glad this crop of kids is getting some experience on deep playoff runs. For as many times as the Canes have made deep runs, the Checkers, and even going back to the River Rats, never really put it together in the playoffs and often underachieved.

I can stress how great it was for the Canes farm team to come to NC. Means a ton to keep them local. My interest in the Greensboro Grasshoppers dropped to zero after the Marlins changed affiliates.

Going to be very interesting where the echl team is going to be.

It is one of the best decisions this franchise has ever made. By far the best way to tap into the Charlotte market.

I can't wait to see what they decide to call for the first penalty of this game, because they're setting a VERY high bar for what constitutes a penalty at this point.

Pretty dominant period overall, kinda sucks it's ONLY 1-0 after that, but we've been pressing! Keep that up and we will start to capitalize more

Yeah it just sucks for most of the guys that they're going to be blocked for the foreseeable future. Only 2-3 of them will be with the Canes next year but easily twice the number could theoretically be ready for the NHL, which is their ultimate goal.

Hooo boy. Good period. If we win the calder cup and host a parade. I am for sure going to it. I remember my first ever hockey game I attended was a Checkers game in 2007 back when they were a ECHL team. This would be (not as sweet) but as memorable as the 2006 cup Carolina won
I'll be honest, winning the Calder would mean more to me than the Canes winning the Stanley Cup (but only by a small margin). I was literally brought up watching the Checkers, I have so many memories (mostly small moments) over the years, they will forever be "my" team. My family moved to Charlotte when I was 6, which was the first year the Checkers joined the ECHL, and I've watched them every year since. I don't think I got to see them win the Riley Cup exactly, but I do remember seeing them raise the banner/cup at the home opener the next year (and beating the All-Star team in their 1-year Champion vs All-Star game). I live in Winston Salem now, but I still get back to Charlotte and go with my family to 5-10 games/year, and I've been to 5 playoff games as well...this team means the world to me!

I've been attending Checker games since the ECHL franchise got started in 1993, we didn't go as often as we did to Hornets games but we would go at least once a year. Saw many different opponents over the years, they had a pretty good rivalry with the teams from Greensboro, the Icecaps, the Charleston Stingrays aka "Stinkrays" and the Virginia teams. I remember watching them come from 0-2 down in 2005 to upset the Columbia Inferno in 3 straight. I went many a nights to the Uptown arena and remember thinking that it would only be a matter of time before they made the jump to the AHL.

About 10 years ago when the Everblades came to town, Jim Rutherford was in the building. I didn't speak with him but some of the season-ticket holders did and they made it sound like the Canes were going to make it happen within the next couple of seasons. I was excited as hell when it was finally announced about a year later.

I haven't been to as many as I used to, Bojangles Coliseum isn't as easy for me to get to as was taking the light rail, but this is by far my favorite season being a fan of this team. The talent is awesome, the coaching is wonderful, the atmosphere is fun, the fans are loud, and the team is damn good.
