This is like a dream come true for these kids. I know it's not the big title but being a champion is something you can never take from them. If they finish this out I can't imagine how much this will help impact their careers.

It helps to change the culture in a positive way because once you've won and know the work that it takes to get there, you won't let a teammate slack because you want to get back to the championship so badly. I wish the Checkers the best of luck in finishing the fight.

No matter what I am proud of you young men!

The talent level means each individual has to push himself or get replaced.
The crazy part is that next season's team could be just as good. Sellgren (presuming he stays in NA) and Mattheos will be on for a full season; Smallman is hopefully recovered; Luostarinen might join the team. Just like this year's team that lost arguably its four best forwards (Miller, Wallmark, Foegele, Zykov) and was significantly better, next year the Checkers will bring in quality replacements.
This is fun.

Necas speed along with his ability to slow the game down when he needs or wants to is what's going to make him so good. Basically, the opposite of a guy like Foegele who plays with speed and goes balls out 100% of the time, which is good too but better suited for a bottom 6 type role.

This ability was learned and refined this year and was not there in his initial stint with the Canes this year. In fact, I thought it was his most notable defect at the beginning of the season. And I agree with you, from what I've seen, he's learned to modulate his speed in the AHL.

If that skill (which is equal parts awareness and confidence IMO) is ready to translate to the NHL, he's a top 9 forward next year, no question.

Waddell and co. deserve credit for how they handled him this year. He wasn't ready and they sent him down before they burned the year off. They then resisted the urge to call him back up when the team really struggling to put the puck in the back of the net in November/December. The end result is a player that comes with a full ELC starting next season, doesn't hit unrestricted free agency until age 27 at the earliest and is expansion exempt.
