Not sure if this means anything, But Chychrun bought a house recently across the street from one of my closest friends. Maybe because he is from Ottawa originally or to stay a little longer?

Chabot is the better Senator, he wants to be here and has given this team everything he can.

Chychryn doesn’t want to be here, so he’s not a good Senator.

More or less how Chabots play has been the last little while

If I had to keep one it'd be Chabot. Chychruns one hand on the stick and reluctance to play the body drives me crazy. He seems to have below average IQ in the defensive zone as well.

Ideally Chabots salary is lower and he is relegated to the 2nd pairing permanently.

Better player?

Both have worts in their defensive play. I see them at about the same level.

Move Sanderson to RD and we have two decent top pairs; I don't care who plays with whom on the top 2 pairings:

Chabot - Sanderson/Zub
Chychrun - Sanderson/Zub

Add a big tough physical RD with Kleven on LD on the 3rd pair and I think things (GA/G) will improve assuming the new coaching staff adopts a stronger defense-first strategy for our Fs; no more standing around in the slot of our D zone watching the puck.

Chabot is the better offensive players, both are fairly weak defensively & Chabot is not living up to his contract most likely due to injuries. If Chabot can stay healthy he's the better player, but his contract is a problem for this team. Not sure what a new deal for Chychrun would be, but he's not worth the $8 mil we pay Chabot, Chabot is not worth the $8 mil we pay him either lately ,but if he can stay healthy he has the potential to be better. Chychrun just had one of his best seasons offensively & we saw how that went here, I'd keep Chabot & work around that onerous contract.

Chabot had a couple games this season under Jacques where you remembered why he was so hyped. At his best, he can really take over games - I haven’t seen that with Chychrun.

It’s just not there consistently with Chabot, be it because of injury or coaching or usage or strength or whatever. But Chychrun has just as many negatives without Chabot’s game-breaking ability so kind of an easy one for me.

When they are both at their best it's Chabot.

I think the only real debate here is if Chabot continues to be a ~60game/year player and Chychrun is as healthy as he was this past season if Chychrun is worth more making (probably) less. The best ability is availability after all.

Chabot is better but he's also a fair bit more expensive in both cap hit and salary going forward.

I don't think he'll be traded but if he were to be dealt his 9.5M average salary over the next 4 years would probably play a big role.

For a long time people have been trying to make Chabot good. JM called him out this year. Green will probably do the same. Only thing left is to hope we get a RD that he can play with. Like for 8m$ a year dude should be able to carry a defence pair... Chych, Chych, Chych..what do we do with him? Chych and Chabot are the same it has been said. If we can get Chych at 6 or 6.5....do it, move Chabot and get Chych the RD to play with. If he wants more...move them both rebuild the second and third pairs. It's not about who is the better player, it's about making the team better.

Im gonna be in the minority here and go with Chychs.

Chabot's health is concerning. Chychrun as well to a degree but he just played an 82 game season. I know he had a bad season, but it could very likely just be a one off year. The fact that Chychrun is more movable than Chabot is also telling. Obviously there is contracts too consider in that front but I just think Chchyrun is the more coveted player around the league and Sens fans are doing the "We didn't want him anyways" approach to this situation.

They were playing him in Norris' spot on the powerplay. Norris was hurt, but maybe it was to see how he did in that spot also. People are probably not going to be thrilled with the return we get for either/both of them, but I think it would address needs, even if it's not evident at the time.

DJ ruined Chabot for so long that I'm not sure how long it'll take to recover. Chych isn't as good but can get back to his level sooner.

If JC is willing to sign in the 6ish range, I'd rather keep him. Overload the left side this year, get a righty that can suit Chabot to build his value up again, and trade him next year when teams have a bit more cap flexibility.

Assuming Korpi is still our #1G, we'd need a defense first system to protect him; hopefully making these guys look better.

I remember a time when the Brady hating poster was going on and on about how Chabot should have been captain because he was the better player than Brady.

Good times

I honestly don't understand the comparison, I don't think it's even close.

I keep Chabot easily and for those saying 8M is too much for him, I'm not too sure about that. Chabot as a UFA right now gets 8M a year. If a team could offer him a good partner that allows him to play more freely he would be worth more than 8.

Chabot > Chychrun AINEC

One is a smooth PMD with good passing ability but soft on D, the other is a... guy with a stick with a hard shot, and no clue where to be on D.

One seems to be a great, calm, leader, the other seems perpetually unhappy.

I think both should be traded. I don't think either have the defensive ability you need to win a tight game in a playoff series. I'm of the opinion that the entire D core should be blown up with the exception of Sanderson-Zub.
