Confirmed Trade: [CGY/PHI] Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

He’s not a torts guy. He tries to be, but he’s not and it hampers his ability.

I don’t really know what’s been in the water but the team has gotten much worse. I wholeheartedly believe they’re productive without the fact of coaching. But when they get benched and their PP is asshole-levels of trash.

Writing was on the wall but you bet your happy asses, Kuzmenko will be benched in his first 5 games here.
Torturella, Il Douche, is the worst thing to happen to the Flyers. Another Chuckles The Sad Clown gift that keeps on giving.

This trade is weird. I don't fully understand Philadelphia's thought process here, but that's become standard of this era. Even if Kuzmenko finds his groove he's a pending UFA. If Farabee is seen just as a cap dump then I really don't get it. Feels like they sold low on a 24 year-old having a down year with a shitty coach.
"Philadelphia's thought process." Good one. There isn't a thought process, a plan or a clue in the Flyers' management offices. They are so arrogant that they think they are the smartest guys in the room, when in fact that are simps. They are committed to contending in the next 18 months, with the worst coach in the league for a young team. And they are betting everything on the upcoming draft, where they now have 3 1sts and 4 2nds. In fact, none of those players are going to be ready to contribute to a Cup-Contention Run for at 5 years minimum. We are looking at a couple more years to make the playoffs, assuming they can find a solid top 4 D corps and a reliable, excellent goalie.

It's becoming difficult to support the inanities that come out of the Flyers' org. Can't wait to hear the endless stream of BS Briere issues tomorrow. Good luck to Frost and Farabee in Calgary. Frost is going to turn some heads, he's a really creative C.

Calgary doesn't own their 1st round pick. They also moved out like a 28-year old for a 24-year old and a 25-year old. 24 and 25 isn't old. They technically got younger on their NHL roster and they absolutely destroyed the Flyers in value in this trade. Grand slam move for them.

Ahh no first round pick. That is my bad for not looking that up and changes my opinion. They are doing better than I thought this year so good on them. I still hate the outlook of the flames in the future especially with them not having now their own first or second round pick this year, though I assume they must have other teams picks? They could use a blue chipper or 3.
The Flames have three 2025 first round pics however one of them is promised to Montreal. Barring any future first round draft pick trades, Calgary will be drafting twice in the 2025 first round.

Briere is obviously trying to improve their top draft pick odds for both the 2025 and 2026 player drafts.... 2026 in particular when Kuzmenko is long gone from the team. That Briere fellow has the cunning of a fox.

Selling low on Farabee makes no sense to me.
I think it makes sense. Another season like he's having and you're likely paying to get rid of him instead of just selling low. Might as well get value for him while you can.

On the flip side, if he does improve, it's not like he's a hard player to replace with $5M in UFA.

I don't think they really care about Kuzmenko. They'd just rather have an expiring $5M deal instead of one with three more years on it.
Contract ends this summer. He's got three months to make an impression.

Im shocked Philly was willing to give up two top 6 guys for a flash in the pan in Kuzmenko. Torts despises players who are lazy.

Like I said, I don't think they targeted Kuzmenko or anything. He's in there to make the money work and then disappear.

Nah, flames are barely at the cap floor. They didn’t need money in money out, they could have kept Kuzmenko if the flyers didn’t want him. Friedman actually said earlier today they were planning on waiving him soon. Flyers wanted him for some reason

I'm more talking actual money. I'm sure Calgary's owner isn't too keen on adding like $7M without without sending some back. Especially if Kuzmenko was going to be making that money in the AHL.

...maybe they figure Michkov needs backup when Torts inevitably starts choking the life outta him... :biglaugh:

I doubt it. They’ve been at or around the cap for the past 10ish years before they started the retool/rebuild last year

Has it been announced it was our 2nd we traded? I haven't seen it mentioned which pick, It could be Colorado's as we got it from Washington for Mangiapane. And then for 1sts we have New Jersey's and Florida's this year, as well as our own and Vegas's in 2026. We also have Vegas' 4th this year, and likely have Florida's 4th this year too. Then we also have the Canucks 3rd next year.... this is added to the 2 x 1st, 2 x 2nd and 2 x 3rd we had in the last draft

Sometimes it feels like people forget what year this is. It's 2025 not 2019.
Farabee and Frost are 25.
They likely are what they are. They could be a little more than they have shown and good for Calgary if they can reach it there, but you can find these players on the FA market every July

So are we, I assure you.

They are nominally rebuilding, but the best description I have of the "rebuild" is that the only thing they felt needed rebuilding was the culture, and they appear to be trying to vibes a Cup run into existence without any reliance on talent. They've only ever shipped out malcontents, people Torts seems to hate, and one guy who wasn't resigning here, and the thought of moving our older players for younger assets seems to be beyond them,

Pelletier and Kuzmenko are excellent glue type of guys to have on your team. Flames fans aren't just saying it when they say these personalities will be sorely missed.

Conroy said in an interview last night that Briere called him in the morning and they just hashed it out all day. It seemed like Briere literally woke up yesterday and decided that it was the day he was going all in to get Farabee and Frost off of the roster, and Conroy was the guy that was going to benefit.

I feel for Philly fans though. This trade stings for you guys a lot. I think many of us Flames fans also kinda understand a little bit what you Flyers fans are going through since we saw a bunch of it over the last few years.

I can't speak for all Flames fans, but I feel like many others share the same sentiment. We're excited for this trade for how it benefits us. But we also feel for you guys and know what it's like to has similar struggles and frustrations with management, so many of us aren't going to gloat.

Nah. I think there's enough evidences that indicates there might have been a bit of fixation by Briere. Conroy said they hadn't really been actively chatting. He basically said Briere basically called him out of the blue yesterday morning and they chatted all day until the deal got done.

There's enough evidence that Kuzmenko was the first player to be confirmed wanted from the Flames end and Pelletier was the second player to be confirmed around an hour later. Picks are picks, basically always fluid. It seems Frost was the first player to be confirmed wanted from the Flyers end and maybe Farabee was second? Or maybe they were always a package in Briere's eyes, I don't know.

Coincidence wise:
- Kuzmenko seems to know Michkov well.
- Frost and Farabee are buddies and hang out a bit off ice
- Briere and Pelletier are both undersized French Canadian NHLers from Quebec

I don't know if the above coincidences were the sole reason why Briere decided only to chat for Conroy for the whole day to get the deal done... but I'd say if Briere called first and he decided to chat with Conroy only, spending a single day to consummate a deal, it's fair to conclude a fixation on a player must have occurred. Especially since Conroy was the one that seemed to walk away with the win over Briere.

As a Flames fan, we were kinda mad that we didn't seem to have taken a shot at Kakko for the price paid. But if a similar thing happened then to what happened for Briere/Conroy, then in hindsight, we can't blame Conroy for that situation. Channels weren't open to other teams/other GMs.

Flyers look to be either rebuilding to tweeking. Take your pick. Shedding $5mill is a good move if the guy has fallen out of favour with the organization

I don't think Farabee has fallen to that level of bad that his contract needed to be shed in this manner based on Flyers fans comments. This feels more like fire selling Bjorkstrand for cheap to make a play for another player type situation, or moving a useful player in Monahan with an asset to fit Kadri... but not.

I just would have loved to have heard the back & forth on adding that 2028 7th!
"You too, could draft your own Dustin Wolf!" - Conroy, probably.

For the last 10 years I swear the Flames' draft picks from the third round onwards have contributed more than the average, but don't quote me on that.

It’s basically a change of scenery trade for all involved. It’s also the Flyers finally giving up on two former 1st Rd picks. Which is never good, but they’ve been nothing but inconsistent, and they’re 25 now.

On the surface though, the Flames probably will win the trade, because there’s a better chance Farabee or Frost (or both) take this new opportunity away from Torts, and run with it. Pelletier likely never is more than what Farabee already is. That’s his ceiling. He’ll never be more than a 45-50 point winger, at best. Frost is the one who’s going to get the best matchup chances immediately btw.

It shouldn’t take long to see what the Flames should expect from these two. They’re not developing anymore. It really is all about a fresh start and new opportunity. However better Frost or Farabee is in Calgary, was likely never going to happen in Philly. Much like the Sam Bennett of today, was never going to happen in Calgary. Sometimes it’s just the player’s perception of how a coach or organization sees him too.

One thing about this deal that’s a little strange? I’m not sure what Briere is thinking by bringing Kuzmenko anywhere near Michkov. He’s much more likely to gain his bad habits than feel more comfortable with another Russian to have around. There were other Russians to acquire if that was the goal.

It’s getting much closer for me. There are fans over the years just speaking in HF terms who have stopped posting or touching anything Flyers related on the board. I moved from PA almost a year ago at this point. So things are getting much easier for me to disassociate with this organization.

If you look back at all the moves made since Torts has been here, they’re all moving players out he either clashed with or just doesn’t like.
I can sympathize with you (not about the Pens, but about another sporting obsession of mine). When you think of your time, money and emotion going into a pursuit run by people who don’t know better or are seemingly just making decisions on a whim, it becomes hard to continue to care. Especially when your fandom comes with the price of extra effort, such as not living in the local market.

I hate the flyers for rivalry reasons, but watching a proud fanbase constantly having to endure utter nonsense from some directionless morons is just painful. I say this as someone who is staring at the start of a new dark age with an untouchable coach, clueless GM, and a witless ownership group that is happy to sit on their hands. It can happen fast, and it’s infuriating.

Hard to see Frost and Farabee being Tpp-6 forwards for a contending team.

Think the Kuzmenko acquisition is meant to aid Michkov in his development and possibly catch lightning in a bottle.
