Confirmed Trade: [CGY/PHI] Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

Philly giving up on good 24 and 25 year olds to add a UFA that is lazy and unproven prospect and a 2nd.

Like ffs, Farabee was a 50 point guy last year, and Frost was on pace for about the same. Philly was taken to the woodshed because their coach is a dinosaur and doesn't build up his young guys, he tries to break them. All of them.

The only team I would ever have him coach is an elite contender that is veteran laid and needed to be pushed to the edge.

Considering he has been past the first round only 3 times in the cap era, you might want to reconsider him for that team too.

Obviously one can spin anything into positives but if you do not need/want something doesn’t mean you have to give them away

They still have values and imo, the Flyers didn’t get value back
Once we see the flood of...or even one?...alternate trade offers for what other teams would have given up for UFA Frost and 3x$5.1 million remaining Farabee...then we'll better understand the value proposition.

I accept that the return might not be equal to the perceived value...but I also accept that Flyers moving on from these 2 players is hardly a mistake, given the options it leaves open for the team.

I wish the Flyers got better value back for Frost and Farabee but I’m fine if it helps them tank. Higher Flyer picks are better than any value Farabee and Frost would have provided 5 years from now

I'd be terrified if I was a Flyers fan. Giving away assets for cap space before the summer of a huge cap increase.

I sense a market reset type of move coming from them

Good for Philly understanding where they are in the league and dumping cap and attempt to get a higher draft pick as well as get 2 more draft picks. I never understand why middle of the pack teams like Calgary who are good financially make a trade like this to push into a first/ second round exit. Good for short term bad for long run.

Calgary doesn't own their 1st round pick. They also moved out like a 28-year old for a 24-year old and a 25-year old. 24 and 25 isn't old. They technically got younger on their NHL roster and they absolutely destroyed the Flyers in value in this trade. Grand slam move for them.

Flames just traded for two guys who are 25 and under - i don't see how this is bad in the long run

the rationale is sensible for Philly, but trading Farabee when his value is at an all time low is some bad asset management, and this is why this franchise is one of the worst in the cap era.

Why is Farabee’s value low at all?

He’s 24, under contract for another three years at $5M, and he has four years of evidence for a reasonably productive floor.

He’s on pace for 31 points, his lowest total since his rookie year, which would still constitute his 5th straight 30 point season.

Looking at the rest of this roster, what more are you expecting from Joel Farabee?

Ahh no first round pick. That is my bad for not looking that up and changes my opinion. They are doing better than I thought this year so good on them. I still hate the outlook of the flames in the future especially with them not having now their own first or second round pick this year, though I assume they must have other teams picks? They could use a blue chipper or 3.

Yeah but wouldn’t this be bad for philly? Like it’ll make their draft pick worse then they’ll have to pay Kuzy if they want to keep him

They aren’t going to have to pay Kuzmenko anything to keep him (figuratively) - this man is two bad weeks away from fighting in the fields of Ukraine.

He doesn’t just forget how to produce. He needs someone other than The Emperor to be the coach.

If he’s been one of their most productive players the last four years, why is he all of a sudden the problem now?

Especially when it seems like he was a Torts guy.

It feels a bit like the Hextall Penguins dumping John Marino off a down year because he looked more like the #4/5 he was paid like than the #2 he looked like early on. Moved him out for someone who the coach would have hated and only ever played 9 games for the Penguins. At best it was horrific asset management, at worst it was moving out a solid roster player for a scratch-off lottery ticket that was already 2/3 scratched off for the sake of making a change.

He’s not a torts guy. He tries to be, but he’s not and it hampers his ability.

I don’t really know what’s been in the water but the team has gotten much worse. I wholeheartedly believe they’re productive without the fact of coaching. But when they get benched and their PP is asshole-levels of trash.

Writing was on the wall but you bet your happy asses, Kuzmenko will be benched in his first 5 games here.

Andrei Kuzmenko will be fortunate if all Torts does is bench him.

I give it one practice before he’s preparing to have Kuzy fall out of the press box.

And that’s really a shame - one of your better players is trying to be a good soldier and modify his game to suit the stupid system you’ve been running since the Carter administration.

Tough-but-fair only works if you’re fair.
