Confirmed Trade: [CGY/PHI] Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

Don't think Pelts has ever played centre even dating back to junior.
But you guys will love him. Little spark plug, plays a 200 foot game, he's constantly hugging or kissing teammates, like a glue guy for sure.

I was really bummed out when he was part of the package, because I felt he was going to be a part of the team for a long time. The sting hurts less when we learned what the return was going to look like.

I think Pelts could be a solid middle 6 LW on a good team in the NHL. Like if Pelts is your 3LW you don't have any issues with that.

Can't be mad on a Flames POV with that trade though, added a lot of skill at really an insignificant cost.

We have 800 pounds of glue. We don’t need any more of it. Trust me.

Your GM gave Briere the business and it’s obvious.

Torts puts his lines in a blender nearly consistently.

Just a little Pelletier 101, and something I think Flyers fans will love about him.

In 2019 Calgary was looking to trade that first round pick, it was a late one and Calgary was looking to upgrade a roster that just finished with 50 wins. However, during the interview process what captured the Pelletier pick was essentially him answering when asked why they should draft him, is him saying I'll help win the Stanley Cup here in Calgary.

Like, just a pure team guy. He was a big part of the Canadian WJC team, he was a big part of the Wranglers and we started to see how he influenced the Flames too.

Flyers have enough of team team team guys. They have enough glue.

They need skill and able to play skilled.

Outside observer re farabee (nyi fan) his game seemed to have devolved. He seems to be always angry/down on himself. Imo could easily be the kind of personality that doesn't work with Tortorella. Or it could be they had reason to move him. Can't say. Just that he doesn't look right.

Sounds like the change of scenery might do him well. Frost too.
I don't know if either had issues with Torts but Huska is a very different coach.

Looks like the consensus is that the Flames won this trade. But it's funny how it seems that Flames fans are trying to say Pelletier is better that most Flyers fans seem to expect, and downplaying Kuzmenko who some Flyers fans* think might be a fit just because of Michkov connection.

*And please note I said some, not all or even most.

As a Flames fan, I get it.
Every couple years we seem to have these 'high character-low skill clubs' we trot out that are good enough to not get a good draft pick, but bad enough to not make the playoffs or get the breaks beat off of them in first round.

I just think he's a likeable young man. I see Kuzmenko in the KHL after this year. Nothing trade with him. If you guys sign him long term I really feel for you. Even if he puts up 30 points in the remaining games, I'd feel for you guys.

Flyers won’t trade Laughton cause of heart and love for the team. Just one example.

Re Kuzmenko, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s here with the intent to help Michkov but at the same time shit like that is so stupid.

I think a lot of Flames fans are coming here and saying Pelletier will be good, just because we liked him and think there's potential, so we hope you fans treat him well.

I didn’t see Michkov saying anything but admittedly I wasn’t 100% invested in the game. It looked like Torts was berating him like he does to everyone who doesn’t play like a clunker.
I didn’t watch but this article makes it seem like it was back and forth then immediate benching.

I was banking on you having watched the game because I sure as shit didn’t.

Tactical win for Calgary, added two middle six guys with a remote chance of top line upside, and most importantly push Rooney to the press box. This should make a bubble team better, enough to get the playoffs, potentially.

Strategically, I’m less convinced. A team full of middle six players did not need more of them, and they still need to make another trade to pick up some premium right handed forwards. As well, Kerins and Morton are now even more blocked than they were before.

As long as your coach lets Farabee stop chasing fights.

As long as your coach lets Frost make mistakes and not staple him to the bench or put him with grinders.

I see Frost probably playing with Shango and Posp to start, and then Zary will step into Posp's role when he's healthy (probably a few weeks out still).

So he'll be playing with our most skilled player (Zary) eventually; and Shango scored 30 last year. He should be in a position to succeed here. He'll likely be PP2, finally relieving Backlund of ever seeing the ice on a powerplay again.

And I can tell you there’s some of the fan base that is gonna be very happy with him. But there’s going to be some of the fan base who is rightfully pissed the Flyers gave up the best two pieces in the deal because of Torts not liking them.

Frost is a very good playmaker and very shifty. Definitely under appreciated here by some.

Yeah. I was in and out of fully paying attention. I saw Michkov say like two things to him, and him just going ballistic.

But nobody really knows exactly what was said.

If that's all you need, i'll see what Reggie Leach is up to.

It doesn't matter what he did, it only matters what he'll do and there's zero chance he'll get anywhere near 39 goals under Torts.

It's the policy of the Philadelphia Flyers to pick between 10-13 for the rest of time. Not good enough to contend, but not bad enough to improve. It's Flyers Hockey.

I didn't realize Reggie Leach scored that many goals TWO seasons ago.

The problem is, it’s seemingly like Pelts is more of the same of what we already have and we gave up the skilled end of it due to Torts.

I think Calgary will be really active at the draft.
They're sitting on four first rounders over the next two years.

Gotta think they're hoping someone shakes loose in the summer. I keep beating the dead horse. Calgary will only get the centre help they need from:
A) Drafting one and hoping you find magic in a bottle (Aho, Point)
B) Taking advantage of a team that decides they have a 'problematic' young centre (Eichel)

With Wolf the bottom is just out of the picture. They're not going to be out-stinking clubs like Chicago, San Jose, Philly, Buffalo, Pittsburgh anytime soon.

Farabee has 4 years remaining. Kuzmenko is on an expiring deal.

Monumental cap relief.

Farabee is a 24 year old winger coming off his first 50 point season, having not scored less than 34 any of the previous 4 years, signed for three years after this at a reasonable number. By the time his deal expires, the cap will be $113M.

I guess I don’t see the need to move off this player.

So he’s not a superstar. So what. He’s a good player, he’s yours, and you could reliably plug him into your top-9 for 82 games a year.

You can’t do that with Pelletier or Kuzmenko.

Farabee and Frost were the picks made with the two first rounders we gave the Flyers for Brayden Schenn and also taking the horrible Lehtera contract Armstrong signed

By the transitive property, it's Schenn and Lehtera contract dump for Kuzmenko, a 2d, a 7th and Pelletier

For all that this looks better for Calgary, Kuzmenko has by far had the best NHL single season of traded group. If Philly can get that Kuzmenko playing with Michkov then it makes sense for them.

I have incredible frustration with the un-punished incompetence with the Penguins organization the last few years. But I would've lost my mind (or my willingness to carry on) long ago if I were a Flyers fan. The notion of making these moves to satisfy some coach that is clearly just treading water is pretty nuts.

You guys are made of some pretty strong stuff.
