Confirmed Trade: [CGY/PHI] Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

Dany boy drunk or what? Farabee alone is a win for that package of mostly nothing from Calgary. Throw in Frost for basically nothing? Easy dub for Flames, and that's kind of annyoing.

Like, you're lucky if Pelletier can ever even touch what Farabee has already established he can be in the NHL under a coach who isn't a giant egomaniacal imbecile.

Kuzmenko is a cap dump who keeps running out of time with multiple coaches because he just doesn't play well enough anywhere aside from around the opposing net.

2nd round pick from the Flames seems alright, but at the moment...a mid-2nd doesn't seem that robust.

And it's not just for Farabee...it's got Frost as a throw-in too. Who, i don't think is very good, but hey...worth a shot at least?

Looks like the flyers make out as bandits buy moving an underachieving guy making 5+ a year for 4 more years after this for a guy who is a UFA after this year

Sure did, they have absolutely nothing at C

They were already so thin in the middle and now have even less

Couturier is a completely-cooked 35 point zombie and Cates is a 3C. All of those wingers are RWs who suck on the left.
Then trading them for a centre is always an option.

"Just a 100 point winger and a 1C away from an elite top 6" is not really saying much.

Are there teams in the league that wouldn't have elite top 6s after adding Mikko Rantanen and a 1C?
Yes obviously but the point is if you add Rantanen you can trade the other pieces for a 1C or 2C just depends on who is available.

really like this trade for the Flames.
Frost and Farabee both seem like they could be good 2nd line forwards with more opportunity.

pretty big risk for the flames taking on farabee but the flyers will have a lot of cap maybe to take a run at Marner or Rantanen.

Why would either want to go there? There’s nobody they could offer at C to play with for starters

They look like a team that badly needs a real rebuild and you can’t rebuild through July 1st

A pretty interesting trade for Calgary. They get two guys that can pretty plausibly help them push for the playoffs this season, and still be core parts of the team long-term.

Philly's return is kinda....meh. Pelletier is a nice prospect, but likely maxes out at the calibre of what Farabee/Frost are right now. 2nd + 7th is standard fare. Kuz is a pure cap dump headed straight to Torts' doghouse.

Every team has "that" guy in the media and for the flames it is Eric Francis. On the surface it looks like a win for the flames but not as big as win as Francis is making it out to be. There are two ways to look at how Farabee is playing this year. Either he is struggling or he is playing how he played in first 4 seasons of his career. He had a break out last season but regressed to how he was before. Will be interesting to which way work out. I like Frost, just do not ask him to do too much. He is a solid player. For me, what the Flames gave up means little. The Russian guy maybe on 5 mill a year but he is a UFA in the off season vs Farabee who is signed for 3 more season at 5 mill. Having money laying around to do stuff is king in the NHL and the flyers had soured on Farabee. The moved his entire contract without taken much money back. I like Jakob Pelletier and I think he could be a little pain in the ass to the teams playing the flyers. He just needs to stay healthy. For me the key to the trade is the Flyers freeing up money for the off season. They got rid of one player who the organization turned against for whatever reason. The Frost loss I think hurts more. They have freed up money for the off season. Changes ae coming and they will need some money to spend
Flames have more cap space than they know what to do with. If Farabee doesnt work out they dont care. They are barely at the cap floor if Farabee was not in the deal.

Pelletier was better than Farabee this season, and not for 5M but 800k...

This whole deal is nothing. We gave up nothing, we got nothing. We saved some term I guess.

The eternal purgatory of the Flyers.

Briere didn't hire Torts, Chuck Fletcher did. He was thinking "ohmygod everyone realizes i'm bad at being a gm I NEED TO CREATE A DISTRACTION welcome to Philadelphia, John Tortorella."

I mean Torts took a team of nothing and almost made the playoffs last year. I don't think the hate for him is as warranted as people make it out to be. His team isn't laid out to be a Cup contender, yet this is the second year in a row he's coaching a competitive team.

Outside observer re farabee (nyi fan) his game seemed to have devolved. He seems to be always angry/down on himself. Imo could easily be the kind of personality that doesn't work with Tortorella. Or it could be they had reason to move him. Can't say. Just that he doesn't look right.

I agree with the nothingness of this trade.

Calgary wins overall value and potential wise but this isn't as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.

If Frost had legit value he would have already been traded for something of actual value, his name has been out there forever.

Farabee is 25 not 20. He's had a 50 point season but other than that has been a random middle 6 winger which you can find every year in free agency. There's precedence of ordinary wingers with term having next to no value in the trade market.

If that deferred 7th was more like a current 3rd this would be a pretty even trade but the difference between those 2 assets isn't that significant.

Calgary must have been the aggressor in this deal which means Philly should have been able to pull out a bit more value but it's likely negligible either way.

Part of the extra value for the flyers is the cap savings they will get from the deal.

This 100%. Is Farabee never going to be the same player post neck injury. Or will getting away from Farterella turn Farabee back into a 50 point player.

really disappointed with the return...
looks like dany just wanted to get rid of Frost and Farabee... :thumbd:

Philly just waving the white flag on the season I guess? Seems like an odd deal for them all around.

Calgary seems to get much more solid (on paper anyway) while the Flyers are adding a very non-Tortorella type and a smaller energy winger.

How does the Calgary lineup look after this deal? Does Pospisil go back up with the big line? Keep the incoming Flyers together and drop Sharangovich down to the fourth line, sending Rooney to the stands?

Huberdeau - Kadri - Pospisil
Coleman - Backlund - Coronato
Farabee - Frost - Klapka
Lomberg - Sharangovich - Bishop

That’s a pretty solid lineup (in my opinion) on a low budget.
Sharangovich is a 4th line player now ?

Strange trade. Seems very lopsided.

Looks like a money deal and term direction to me. Flyers are probably looking at a retool strategy this summer with a bigger cap and want as much options as possible. This also sets them back for the rest of this season and they get a better pick.

Farabee was among the league leaders in 5v5 scoring the first half of last year before his game fell off a cliff.

Frost will have a "bye Torts" bump and Farabee could as well
