Confirmed Trade: [CGY/PHI] Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

Farabee contract is woof 5 million aav for what?

He's been on pace for 20+ goals and 40+ points 3 of his last 4 seasons before this year. He's a cost controlled 24yr old with term on his deal. I'd say 5.000 is not a lot for what he has brought before this season. It comes down to whether or not you think this season is his new norm, or just an off year for him, really.

Comes down to how strong the kush is in Alberta, really.

It's not hindsight when tons of people were talking about how he was being misused as a bottom 6 winger. He's a center who should have been playing with other skilled players.

That trade was a disaster the moment it was made. The fact that you're trying to defend it is laughable, and only highlights how poor your understanding of Bennett's game is.
I think Bennett and the Flames also really suffered from poor timing. When he came in the Flames had two clear top 6 Cs (Backlund and Monahan). Then the one year (2021) when they finally were going to convert him to C, suddenly Lindholm wanted to go to C (which showed to be a good move for him).

In retrospect, the Flames should have gone to a 3C approach earlier and gave Bennett Tkachuk to play with. Backlund made anyone he played with look elite anyway so he didn't need Tkachuk.

In the end, the Flames suffered from short term thinking where it never made sense at the moment to put Bennett at C, but they needed to take a long term approach. Gulutzan/Peters/Ward were all terrible coaches too, so that didn't help.

And we also should have prioritized Bennett. Even if he never was elite in the regular season, he was a top 3 player in the playoffs every single time he was there, and we should have seen that. Prioritizing keeping Dube over him really stings given hindsight (or Monahan who we traded a 1st away to get rid of a year later). Also Bennett would have 100% thrived under Sutter who was the perfect coach for him

Treliving was terrible at long term strategy in the end

Ehh what has he really done? Tank and win a trade against Kyle Dubas? I don't think he's done enough to say one way or another
I think one of the hardest things he has had to do was strip the team down while gaining some decent assets. Those contracts he moved are not easy contracts to get out of. I know there was retention, but he's done about as well as he could have I think.

There's hasn't been day I regretted the Flames trading Bennett. He's a good playoff performer, but not a player that gets you there.

Great trade for the Flames

Love seeing them make moves to keep themselves in mediocre purgatory. I’d hate to see them finish bad enough where they could actually draft a franchise player or top end C.

Certainly is the Joey's of scoring wingers.
Maybe Edmonton fan's can correct me but there is a restaurant in downtown Edm called Joey. It is not the same as the Joey's

So same as Lindholm and Zadorov. As Boston is finding out

Am I absolutely losing my mine? What is Philly doing?

Two former 1st-rounders who are solid middle 6ers for....basically a 2nd. What is that?!?!

"Catering to Torts", what is that about. WTF he'll be gone soon why make this trade. WHY!!

This feels like one of those trades that we'll have completely forgotten about in a year or two.

Farabee was a good player, but he's signed for too much and too long to make me wanna bet on him finding his game again. It's been a while since he was that guy.

Kuzmenko is essentially worthless to a contender. The Flyers probably would've been the front runners to sign him this summer given the Michkov connection. I guess they got their guy 6 months early.

Frost has been riding his draft pedigree for a while now. Odds are he is what he is, a dime a dozen middle 6 forward.

Pelletier is a nice bottom 6 guy that brings energy but his value is pretty inconsequential.

The Flames have to give up a pick because Farabee and Frost do have a higher ceiling, but this just feels like a real nothing kinda trade

I mean reading this seems like it sells it for the flames. Oh no, we might overpay a center when we have 30 million in cap space. Enjoy the 2nd.

Maybe Kuz is being brought in to be a punching bag for Torts so he can lay off Mitchkov a bit.

But Mitchkov did it to himself. He wanted to play in Philly and basically tampered with the draft to get there

Philly just waving the white flag on the season I guess? Seems like an odd deal for them all around.

Calgary seems to get much more solid (on paper anyway) while the Flyers are adding a very non-Tortorella type and a smaller energy winger.

How does the Calgary lineup look after this deal? Does Pospisil go back up with the big line? Keep the incoming Flyers together and drop Sharangovich down to the fourth line, sending Rooney to the stands?

Huberdeau - Kadri - Pospisil
Coleman - Backlund - Coronato
Farabee - Frost - Klapka
Lomberg - Sharangovich - Bishop

That’s a pretty solid lineup (in my opinion) on a low budget.

Missing Connor Zary. Perhaps Sharangovich to the 3rd line, Pospisil and Klapka down to the 4th, Bishop scratched. Zary on the first line when he returns.

Good luck to Pelts and Kuz in Philly. Genuinely really very likeable players, chalked full of personality both of them. Pelletier I have been and will continue to be a believer in. Very productive AHL player, lots of energy and some good hands and vision. Had very tough back to back shoulder injuries where he got nailed with a terrible hit preseason against Seattle and then Trouba also got him with some nasty bullshit the very game he came back. Looked very tentative and played scared in training camp this year and his game just doesn't allow for that. Think he could definitely be a useful middle 6er on a good team.

Kuzmenko is a strange case study in enigmatic Russian wingers. Very good at hockey, despite what the numbers this year say is one of the most skilled players on the team. A victim of learning the pro game on big ice I think maybe. Always believes he has more time than he actually does and makes a lot of poor plays because of this. When it works though it's a thing of beauty. A player you can forgive his many faults if he is scoring but he was not scoring for the Flames in 2024-25.

On paper currently this is awful for philly.

I know Torts doesn’t particularly like Frost but these two don’t really seem like guys he is gonna like all that much either lol
