Confirmed Trade: [CGY/PHI] Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

himym-no.gif

All I want to know is what in the f***ing world possible dialogue could’ve been said from either party to explain why there’s a 7th round draft pick FOUR drafts from now included in the trade.
Conroy didnt like the fact I got the trade right and threw that in there to say I didnt. Kind of a jerk move on his part to be honest.

Flames absolutely robbed them my god. Frost isn't great but he's a solid 2/3C tweener decent defensively and Farabee has great potential and is solid defensively and if he was getting more of a chance I could see him getting 70 pts no problem.

Kuzmenko and Torts reminds me of when we had Ales Kotalik in New York under Torts. He couldn't get rid of him fast enough. Somehow got the Flames to take him and his contract in the Jokinen deal.

Kuzmenko probably gets flipped again at the deadline for a pick
Whoah Kotalik- there's a name I haven't heard in ages

I’d love to know what other teams offered for Farabee. Frost probably would have returned a 3rd or maybe slightly better. So I’m wondering if Briere is high on Pelletier or if league interest in Farabee is just low. If he was playing at his average he probably gets a late 1st+ a little. He has really had a disastrous year though but I think a fresh start will help him

Then trade one of them away for a centre, Rantanen is better than all of them. Or you could slide tippet and Konecny to the LW and have you top 6 be

Konecny-Cates-Rantanen
Tippett-Couterier-Michkov

If you can add a 1C or a 2C to that group thats an elite top 6.

Couturier is a completely-cooked 35 point zombie and Cates is a 3C. All of those wingers are RWs who suck on the left.

Wtf Philly.
**Looks into crystal ball**

Kuzmenko is paired with Michkov and goes on a tear... helping the youngster blossom and himself contributing glowingly on the Philly PP. After a handful of charismatic pressers, Kuzy becomes the new orange darling and Briere signs him to a 3-year, 17.5 mil deal once the season ends.

FFWD to December 2026... Kuzmenko is in the dog house after reporting to camp out of shape and being scratched multiple times. The Flyers end up trading him within a year for a 5th and retain 30% of his contract.

This is how we roll in Philly.

Brzustewicz went from putting up 92 points in 67 games in the OHL to 15 point in 42 games in the AHL. The guy the Flames drafted with the 1st seems to be having an underwhelming D+1 year as well.

It really looks like a lose-lose to me.
Brzustewicz is doing perfectly fine in the AHL, not many small puck moving d-men are able to put up a solid PPG like that and it's not like he's a top pick either.

I think Kuzmenko could score 30+ again. He’s small, slow and not a play driver but he’s an elite finisher and would compliment a playmaker really well. Philly doesn’t have one of those though and torts is coach.

The flyers got absolutely hosed in this trade too wtf!

This feels like one of those trades that we'll have completely forgotten about in a year or two.

Farabee was a good player, but he's signed for too much and too long to make me wanna bet on him finding his game again. It's been a while since he was that guy.

Kuzmenko is essentially worthless to a contender. The Flyers probably would've been the front runners to sign him this summer given the Michkov connection. I guess they got their guy 6 months early.

Frost has been riding his draft pedigree for a while now. Odds are he is what he is, a dime a dozen middle 6 forward.

Pelletier is a nice bottom 6 guy that brings energy but his value is pretty inconsequential.

The Flames have to give up a pick because Farabee and Frost do have a higher ceiling, but this just feels like a real nothing kinda trade

Does Philly have anything to offer VAN for either Petey or JT? That was my first thought but I'm not sure I see a deal
It would need to be a 3-team trade. The Flyers are LOADED with picks but Vancouver doesn't want futures. Flyers need to swap two of their 1sts, an ace prospect, and a depth guy to a team with some win-now pieces looking to rebuild... then flip those pieces to Vancouver.

Frost - coming off a bridge deal, Arb-Eligible RFA one year removed from UFA. Don't mind shipping him out if you don't want to give him a UFA deal, seems like he's been on the block forever.

Farabee - 3 more year after this one at $5 million. Turns 25 in a few weeks. Could be a big piece, could be overpaid, possibly even very overpaid. This is probably the key piece to determine how the trade unfolds.

Pelletier - likely a stopgap player who will be cheap and may fit the Torts brand ok

Kuzmenko - just a placeholder to play out the season, will go back to KHL after this season

Mid-2nd round pick - not terrible, Philadelphia has a treasure trove of draft capital for this upcoming draft, which you like to see, and could be gearing up for a tank in the McKenna Draft.

While there's a chance Farbee with his three years left turns out into a big player, which could make this great for the Flames, I think there's the usual thing I see on here of people overreacting the youngness and potential goodness of RFA-aged players. There's a reason once players hit UFA years, unless they're like a star player, they tend to bounce around the league a good bit. The chances of Farbee/Frost ever being part of winning Flyer teams on a realistic, consistent timeline was basically nill and given their contract situations, I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't have much trade value based on contract situations.

Don't forget a really ridiculous shooting % heater he'll be on that Philly fans insist is DEFINITELY going to stay forever

Kuzmenko completely rebounded when he arrived in Calgary from his miserable season in Vancouver. Really did wonders on for Calgary's terrible PP last year as well. It wouldn't surprise me if he did the same now in Philadelphia. Just don't fall in love with him!
