Sabres fan here. Eakin is rock-solid in the faceoff dot. He's decent enough on the PK. He was great in the room.

Annnnnd that's all the positive things I have to say about him -- he's a black hole of suck otherwise.

Just curious... does anyone know what PTO players get paid? Or maybe they don't?

I don’t think they do. Nobody gets pain in pre-season. I think players’ checks start coming in only once the regular season has begun. PTO guys just trying out in order to possibly sign a contract where they will get paid.

I'm convinced that the infamous major penalty he got against San Jose destroyed him psychologically. Before that he was actually very good as Vegas' third line center. He was never the same after the penalty and was, in my view, a huge contributor in Vegas' third line being such a disaster that it heavily impacted Cody Glass' early development.

Thought maybe a change of scenery would help him but he never got better. I almost want to feel sorry for him because the major penalty was so wrong the NHL changed the rules for major penalty review. But honestly it was on him to get over and come to peace with it and he seems to have never recovered.

Agreed on the not having guys sitting in the pressbox. Just thought we already had that player in Rooney/Lewis/Lucic.
Unless injured Lewis is going to play every game this year because Sutter. You can also probably count on Lucic playing at least 90% of the season.

The Rooney signing never made any sense to me, it was so early in free agency, an overpayment for what he brings, and I don't even think he will play 50 games. It was almost certain he would be available at least a week later too, and if not there were plenty of other options that could do the same thing.

Outside of Pelletier, Ruzicka, and maybe Schwindt it's pretty unlikely that any other forward prospect will challenge for a roster spot this year (not counting Coronato because he may join at end of season).

There is also the rule of needing X amount of players with NHL experience in each preseason game

What is Friedge's defintion of their M.O.? The red hair? The mullet?

Mullet offence.

How so? I seen many players injured pre-season. I'll show myself out.

You'd get a healthy per diem but yeah I don't think any pay. Also would have to imagine any injury by PTO guys is covered under team insurance?

Tough break for the greatest mullet in the league......now out of the league I suppose.

I wonder if he heads to Europe next, or just sits tight and waits for another offer.

Europe it is!

I can think of a number of worse places to spend the winter than Switzerland playing two or three (at most) games a week. I'm sure he's thinking of it as a paid vacation. Lots of people in Switzerland speak English too(45% of the population) so if won't be a difficult stay for his family... assuming they go there with him and why wouldn't they?
