I was pretty pumped for the upcoming season, but the past week has tempered my enthusiasm.
Tempering enthusiasm is normally Drivesaitl's job isn't it? This time of the CFL off-season is always a speculation-fueled roller-coaster ride. Although not as high as they are at the moment, my hopes re. the EE were on the upswing in early 2023. Then I actually saw the team on the field at Commonwealth during the home pre-season game. The debacle that followed early that year came as no surprise whatsoever after that. Obviously, January is not the optimum month for accurately predicting what will happen once the regular season begins. Speculating is fun (especially for the speculator), but not something I really care about too much.

For sure, I was just reacting to last week in particular where it seemed that a good chunk of our best players were released to test the NFL waters. Still more enthused about this upcoming year than I have been in many, many years.

If its my job I'm not very active in doing it. Don't ask me to take out the trash. I'll be by here again in a month to see whether the thread needs some sprucing up.

Speculating on the Elks? I predict some difficulty overwintering and survival rates.

I call 'em as I see 'em, Mr. Drive. There's nothing wrong with laying out the worst-case scenario re. almost every single EE player move or management/coaching hire. Somebody's gotta do it and you seem to have it well covered. Balancing that out occasionally with some hope is what I do, while never forgetting that I've paid to see a lot of pretty bad football since the Esks' 34 year playoff run was snapped in 2006.

One never really knows how successfully elk will winter, which is all part of the magnificent wonder of nature.

Some people just enjoy being the provocative contrarian for whatever reason. If that's how they get their jollies, then whatever.

I had a different disposition to the club in former days. For instance when Mike Reilly etal were here. Or other times when it was a good club. Used to be very behind the product as it was cheaper affordable family entertainment and I was just into that kind of branding. The org lost their way and they lost a lot of fans, and me, in the sinking. Gonna take quite a bit to get it back. Not bandwagoning, just that I don't believe in the org anymore. Certainly its show me time or the club is done. The league probably in a lot of trouble too.

Met a guy on Friday at an Arizona watering hole, wearing a Stampeder hat (poor guy). Asked him what the return policy was on poor QBs recently traded to Saskatchewan.

Let me just say Calgary people have poor sense of humour.

Strong start to the legal tampering window, loving the focus on bringing in Canadian talent. A reunion with Beard would be fantastic as well.

With our new Canadian depth, I have a feeling we will be targeting Cage on the O-line to replace Boyko and likely Beard as well.

I really hope we get a legit 1000 yard guy (maybe Hollins?) as I’m a little nervous relying on guys like Julien-Grant to improve.

If we signed Hollins, Beard and Cage and brought back Ceresna, I’d be thrilled.

Hervey looks to be building the team the right way, building a potentially great oline, with two stud running backs to help out an emerging talented young QB.

Amazing news! I would have preferred Ceresna to Brinkman (is he any good?) but great to see Boyko back. We have a ton of Canadian depth now with nationals at skill positions like QB and DB.

Give me Hollins or another receiver and I’m thrilled!
