CFL 2025

I remember the days when there no more than 4 assistants. I wonder if 8 are really required.

I am glad to see Jason Tucker back to coach the receivers.
Agreed re. J. Tucker. Also, getting Demtrious Maxie back as D-Line Coach is huge. Still, I'm hoping that there's room on the coaching staff for Almondo Sewell - if he's interested in returning.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't positions like that in the NCAA normally filled by recent graduates and/or new coaches trying to get their feet wet?

Just seems strange to me that he keeps seeking these positions out. Looks to me like he scratching and clawing at a faint hope of establishing himself as a coach in NCAA Div 1 or the NFL somehow.
Tar Heels are a Div 1 school. Not sure how long Bill B will even be there, with the rumors of Brady trying to convince him to come and coach the Raiders.

If Belichick bolts for the NFL, his replacement with the Tar Heels will likely be OC Freddie Kitchens - the former Cleveland Browns HC who brought Chris Jones to the NFL from Sask.

Who should the Elks take at 12 in the draft?

I think one of the defensive lineman may fall too you guys. It's a deep Dline draft.

Don't see you taking a linebacker, Jones took 4 last year.

Oline maybe, Anderson can play tackle and you guys did start a Canadian at RT.

Defensive back? Hutter is being wasted on the bench, maybe another depth DB who can play DHB/CB.

I think reciever is one of your deepest positions, do you add another?

I have no idea, but based on Hervey's history I'd suspect the lines are going to be a big priority for him whether through the draft or free agency or both.

If there's some depth in the draft for linemen (whether D or O) maybe he goes somewhere else for the first pick at 12 if there's a unique talent he wants and then loads up on volume later for the lines and maybe some athletic line backers or fullbacks to load up the special teams, but I'd be pretty surprised if he started loading up on DBs, recievers or kickers at the draft.

While Mitchell was a bright spot for the EE in 2022, he was a bit lackluster the last 2 seasons - especially as a kick returner last year. An under-the-radar WR to look out for going forward may be Arkell Smith who was briefly pretty decent as a rookie with the EE in '24 before getting hurt.

I certainly wish Mitchell the best.

He was the best "possession" receiver the club had in the last 5 years and he was a bright spot when the team was as low as you can possibly go. He always came to play. Some of the worst QBs in EE history didn't help much either.

As for the kick return teams, they basically turned to him when no one else back there could even catch the ball. He was unspectacular in running them back but the question remains as to why the EE couldn't find a real special teams guy--for the last decade.
