Center Ice/Game Center Discussion

Did the gamecenter live through the ps3 app last year. Frustrating has hell. Choppy, and goes from near HD to "blades of steel" quality. Most of the time it was a pixelated mess. Finally got dish network and now will get center in HD. Do yourselves a favor and , if possible, get dish. Can't say enough how good their customer service and overall value has been to me. My bill is 1/3 what Comcast charged for more channels. And for the love of god it's 2013, no one should be forced to watch hockey through the fog of SD.

Do you guys know if they'll be doing a free preview of GCL for a few days because I noticed that there is a space for a promo when you go onto the website. I rather get a few days free to see what I'm getting before spending money even though I probably will anyway.

My cable provider, Comcash just told me it will not be open to order until January 19, which is start day. Great job preparing to sell a product that is in demand. Grrrrrrrrr.

But Comcast is offering a free preview period from Jan. 19-31. You can take your sweet time. That's what I plan on doing.

Hope it is a full schedule. They said when they are ready it will be $49 for the season, less than last years $160. But I will take your advise and wait until the free period is over.

LET'S GO ISLANDERS :clap::clap::clap:

I hope Verizon is doing the same thing. I am getting GCL but having the option to watch opening night in my living room without having to rig up my xbox or laptop would be nice.

For anyone that has had Center Ice in the past, do some games 'not make the cut'? It says up to 40 games a week. Does that mean there's a chance that some games might not be broadcasted? I'd like to get this in order to watch every Islanders game, but if there are going to be some games that I can't get, I might reconsider.

woops...my bad..I was answering for gamecenter not center ice. ignore

From what I remember the last few years, the free period is for all the games in that time period. The only problem is that all the games are in SD and not HD. Actually, they do feature one HD game every night, but we're the Isles... we never get that game. My friends always give me crap that I watch hockey in 'analog' - they're all Bruins fans and watch NESN. It's a real pain in the buns in that respect.

Plus, you're forced to watch a lot of the opponent feeds for Isles games (again, the lack of respect we get) so you miss Howie and Butch - depends on if you like that or not. It's annoying to me missing some of the verbal magic from Butchie in those games. For about $50 though, it's not a bad deal at all. I enjoy watching some of the Western Conference teams after the Isles are finished so it's great for hockey fanatics.

I set my team to my Anaheim Ducks, so I don't get those stupid blackouts...

Besides, Anaheim was basically my favorite team as a child because of the Mighty Ducks! So, I technically did not lie.

EDIT:

Having GCL on my Android phone will be awesome as well!

Also can this be used by multiple people in same household at the same time?

One on Roku, Android, etc?

It might be your internet. I have the ps3 app as well and it worked great for me. Yes, there were some times where it went from HD to pixelated but it only stayed pixelated for 15-20 seconds, then went back to HD. And it only happened maybe once or twice per period.

And I agree. It's 2013... how ANYTHING is still in standard def is unthinkable. That's why I go with gamecenter. I have cablevision and center ice is STILL only in SD. It's disgusting.

I had the same issues and my internet was fine.

At the time I had Comcast cable (20/5 mbps). Cable internet has its flaws, notably the shared bandwidth that peaks around 7pm which unfortunately is game time. That could have been the issue, but it ran fine with no bandwidth issues on my PC, running on the same network. There were also some other issues with the app freezing or not loading and the games were delayed probably due to the feed frequently needing to switch back and forth to different quality streams (once or twice per period is annoying to me). I would rather have the option to manually set it to a lower quality to avoid the pauses it takes to switch the feed.

I am really looking forward to the Xbox app. From my experience, Microsoft has a higher standard of quality for software publishing for xbox live. Plus I have fios now so hopefully the experience will be much better overall.

GCL is still the way to go because your not anchored to your couch like you are with Center Ice. Between internet, xbox/ps3, and andriod I should have no reason to miss a game.

Will this really stop blackouts? I assume they detect through your IP who your provider is and where your located and black out the local area market teams. Not by what team you select as your favorite.

Sorry but I'm a little confused.

Your right it goes by IP setting your favorite team has nothing to do with the black out restrictions.

Sweet, $49.99 for the season. I'll wait until the 31st when the free preview ends!

Although, it really annoys me that I never get to see the Isles in HD other than when they play the Bruins on NESN - I cannot stand Jack Edwards though.

Liked him on ESPN's Sportscenter back in the day, but I agree, he's a horrible play by play man.

I have a question:
I ordered gamecenter last season and can still log in and see ALL of last season's games (archived).

Does this somehow mean I'll be able to watch games automatically as of this Saturday? The little calender only runs up to June.

I've received no mails and NHL.com and/or Gamecenter hasn't answered the e-mails I've sent.

Now, there is a button on the main page saying 'Upgrade Now'. When I press on that, I get the ad for special features for $49.99.

Anybody maybe know a bit more about all this?

Thanks in advance...

Same here. Looked on the main board thread but didn't see anything about this. I would also like to know.

If you had Game Center last year you probably have auto renewal.. My friend called them and they said on jan 21st you get billed and jan 22nd it goes live so its gonna miss the first couple games.. Not really sure why they'd do that but that's what he told me after calling them up.

I had NHL CI last year, but I'm considering going with Gamecenter. I travel quite a bit (going to Mexico City next week) so I can't always be home to watch the Isles. When I'm out of town, am I still able to get Gamecenter on my computer? That's the only thing what would make it worth paying for.
Can I get it on more then one device? Say my computer and my iphone?

It would be divided by 15...each game has 2 teams ;)

Good point...oops lol

I swear people just skip over my posts unless I make a math mistake ^. Yes, you can watch on any compatible device (iPhone/Andriod phones or tablets, xbox/ps3, and pretty much any device that has internet access)

Speaking of android, the new app came out yesterday and I downloaded it. To go off my post above that I'm sure nobody saw, I logged in and the GCL service said it was "purchased". I'm confused because I haven't paid for anything. I looked at my bank account to see if it auto payed but didn't see a transaction. I wonder if my subscription from last year has anything to do with it. Anybody know?

You must have skipped over my post! I think its default setting is auto-renewal cause my friend called up game center and they told him he has until Jan 21st to unsubscribe with out having to pay for the first month other wise it will be automatically taken from what ever method you used to pay last time.

It's your avatar...distracts me every damn time.

And thanks for the info.

Excuse my lack of knowledge on these issues. But NHL Gamecenter Live, how does this work ? If I live in NY, and have the app on my tablet or phone, does that mean the Islander's will be blacked out ? If I travel elsewhere, will I be able to watch the games (Going to LA next week), or is it IP driven ? Other than living out of state, I can't figure out the benefit of an Islander's fan living in NY getting this (if the games get blacked out). Any info would be great, the website is kind of sketchy with their FAQ's.

You should be able to watch the games once you leave the black out restricted area for example when you travel to LA you'll be able to get all NY games but the Ducks/Kings will be blacked out. I don't get it to watch Islanders games I just like watching hockey so when I get home from work late the west coast games are just starting.
