Selling the defending champions seems like a weird situation. On one hand, it'll probably raise the seeking price (which, considering this is the Boston Celtics, the team with the most titles in a large market is already likely to be a record for an NBA franchise). On the other, it may make others wonder if there's some underlying issue. Wonder if the Jacobs family would be interested to ensure that new owners don't decide to move the team into their own building, which would not only cost them what they get from Celtic home dates, but also introduce a competing full-size arena in the market.

Not sure if Jacobs has the net worth for that. If the Mavs are worth $3.5 billion and the Suns are worth $4 billion, I would think the bidding for the Celtics starts at $5 billion. I could see Fenway Sports Group making a bid since they have said an NBA team was a priority, the one glitch is that LeBron is part owner of the group.

Maybe just a coincidence, or maybe the owners just wanted to go out on top to maximize the selling price and of their own prestige.

Funny that they put up for sale almost immediately after signing a monster deal.

Celtics are also just tenants in the Gardens. I recall like 4/5 years ago there was talk about them buying land near a casino area to build their own arena. Sixers are also looking at their own arena as they are also tenants to the Flyers.

I do wonder if their own arena would be something new owners would pursue. Logistically not needed for the city, but it's all about revenue for the club.

Jacobs is worth $4.3 billion, so unless he goes halfsies with another billionaire or group of wealthy individuals, I dont see it happening. Suppose he could call Robert Kraft.

Conspiracy theory- the NBA made sure the Celtics won so the price of the team would increase. The value of the other teams will also increase after the Celtics sell for a record price!!!

They could also do a merger. It seems like its only Grosbeck is the only one who wants out. So maybe Jacobs buys his stake and they merge
