Celebrini for CALDER

So basically he’s in the top 30-90 forwards in 80% of categories, offensive, defensive, and transition? Am I reading that correctly?
I'm not super knowledgeable in statistics, but I'm assuming the numbers mean z-scores, so a z-score of 1 would indicate being in the top 16% of forwards, or about 60 forwards in the league assuming 12 regulars per team, 32 teams. A z-score of 3.00 in "entries w/ chances/60" probably means he's in the top-5 in that category in the whole league.

Just crazy, any way you slice it. He's so good.

> Explains z-scores at a z=3.0+ level across all of HFBoards

Hutson's probably gonna win it tbh but still feeling better about Celebrini's long term outlook
I'm at a point where I'm a little indifferent to the Calder. I doubt Celebrini cares too much about it either.

The impressive thing about Celebrini is not the highlight reel, it's the little things he does every game that leads to winning. I know they're drastically different physical types, but Sasha Barkov is really who I would compare Celebrini too in terms of off-puck play. Barkov is bigger and slower than Mack, but the way they approach boards battles, the little stick checks and stick lifts and swipes, the positioning, the absolutely relentless puck-hounding, the quick handling to escape from pressure, I see so much alike in their games. True, Barkov uses his size to do those things and Celebrini uses his quickness and agility, but the brain is the same, the intent is the same, and in a couple years the result will be the same.

I have no beef with any of Hutson, Wolf, or Michkov. They have more exciting highlight reels and play in bigger markets, and they're really good players to boot. I would love to see Wolf win, personally, if Mack doesn't. But Calder or no Calder, any of those teams would jump at the chance to trade their guy for Mack. He's unbelievably special.

You guys are all crazy! Hutson not only should get the Calder, but should also get the Norris lol jk

Celebrini is such a beast, I hope Grier adds some quality veterans in the off-season. I wish they kept Zetterlund
Don't forget he also should be the hart trophy winner also. He single handedly took a horrible hab team and skilled and willed them into playoff contention.

Should be Hutson winning it. He has been a production machine for the Habs down the stretch in important games (3 points already today) and you just can’t ignore the point totals he is putting up. Hats off to him for producing a historic rookie season, possibly top 5 points in history for a defenseman. Unfortunately for Celebrini, with Michkov heating up and taking the most goals away from him I have a hard time seeing voters pass on Hutson at this point.

Sadly this team will probably cost him the Calder. We have maybe 1.5 finishers and the 1 isn't even playing on his line right now. We diss Grier's obsession with size but in this league the ability to play down low is important. One big legit top 6 player would transform this offense.

Hutson is incredible- not sure he can have the two-way impact of Hughes, but this season is truly special.

If Hutson continues his trajectory, it’ll be interesting to see if the Habs can win a cup. Top five assets are Suzuki, Cauffield, Demidov, and Hutson. All excellent players/prospects, but with the exception of Suzuki (in a lesser Bergeron/Oreilly role), they’re not the type you win with. Small but elite PMD, small sniper, high talented one way winger. Dostal/Fowler and Slafovsky look good as well, but likely secondary pieces. If Montreal can deliver a cup, it'll change up some perspectives on team building.

Wouldn’t trade Celebrini for Hutson, but Hutson has taken the lead for my no -existent vote!

Yeah... Mack ain't winning the calder. Team's f***ing putrid and he's not even playing that great right now. God f***ing dammit
I say he's not playing substantially worse than he ever was. The team around him, however, is worse than ever. Lund ain't it, we traded our co-best F1, and have no replacement for him. That leaves the top line struggling on the forecheck and always having to dig out of their own zone.

There is no one to give Celebrini even a tiny bit of space to work. Eklund on his best day can do it but teams will still concentrate on Macklin.

idk if he'll ever be a crazy good play driver but he's such a slippery skater, he's gonna draw a ton of penalties and then just do plus level PPQB things.

Dude has one goal in 9 games. Maybe he should stop looking to pass first most of the time.

In this mornings 32 Thoughts podcast, Smith and Celebrini are the two Sharks mentioned for Calder, but Lane is their lead candidate.
