I like to think that there is room enough in the league for us to have a young player that we're excited to have and that other teams can have young exciting players too. I have no antagonism for other players that are competing with Celebrini for the Calder (though sometimes I have some for the fan/trolls that end up in the main board Calder thread).

Except Anaheim and Vegas. Any success they have is the devil's work.

The entire point is that Michfraud is not an exciting player outside of 3v3 OT. He's a one dimensional smurf who isn't even good at that one dimension.

He's also already 20 years old and in his 4th season of pro hockey so anyone expecting massive improvements in the future is fooling themselves.

My only issue with Michkov has to do with Smith, not Celebrini. And obviously not Smith personally--just that I hate anytime someone brings up that draft and how Grier should've taken Michkov instead, how he's so much better than Smith...you all know the story, and all the nonsense involved.

I'm sure Michkov will put up a lot of points in the future, but I'm also pretty sure Smith will, too. Neither will be getting acclaim for being great two-way players, but Smith might be able to hang at center and maybe actually be the better player at 5v5. The way things have gone this season, I'm starting to completely forget that there even was some "controversy" over the Sharks picking Smith instead of Michkov, because it all just seems like more nonsense than ever now.

Michkov and Celebrini don't even belong in the same sentence, though.

To be a little fair to Michkov, kid's got 34 PTS and is a -12, Smith has 21 pts and is a -11. Michkov is still performing better than Smith (though certainly not to the level everyone thought he would). I think it's disingenuous to think Michkov won't grow after his first NHL season (the NHL is far better than the KHL) and in particular, I imagine having a less hard-ass, old-school coach will likely help unlock him a little more. He's far from a bust.

That said, I do think it's much, much closer between him and Smith than everyone thought and Celebrini is absolutely a different level of player.

Smith has scored 17 5v5 points this season and Michkov has 15.

The gap is entirely due to 3v3 and power play production but even that has completely dried up for the smurf.

Exactly. Smith has received virtually zero minutes in those situations. I don’t think he would be as productive as Michkov in those minutes as Michkov has been elite in PP and 3v3 minutes.

I will say that I value a player’s 5v5 production more than than PP and 3v3 so while what Mitchkov has done in those minutes is impressive, the 5v5 play paints a better picture on future value to a winning organization.

It is never a bad idea to avoid russian players, especially the ones still playing over there, if you have comparable options. On top of the regular prospect risks, there's actual legislative/political risks: will they be allowed to leave, will they get drafted if they sign abroad etc. Not mentioning the fact that they might actually support what's going on in Ukraine.

Awesome to see. I know many fans probably want Warso to avoid the difficult matchups so Celebrini can rack up more points and have an easy ride to the Calder, but this is WAY more important in my opinion. Also shows how much other coaches respect Celebrini as a dangerous threat. Let Macklin see what it's like facing the best of the best and this will be much better for his development in the long run. Of course there will be times he gets shutdown but he is only 18 and he is going to learn so much from these experiences. My only gripe is I think/wish our powerplay was more dangerous and effective but with the lack of some personnel and the glaring issue of having no true PP QB it is what it is.

Yep, and you can see the difference in performance vs very good teams with shutdown centers (Barkov and Cirelli, for example). Macklin visibly struggled and was pissed off, which is going to motivate him to keep getting better and better.
