GDT: Ccmm

I think Strome is flexible enough that he could do well with a non-Ovechkin forward. Too bad it'll be over a year before we find out.
Strome will still get gashed defensively unless he suddenly clues into improving his skating. For a student of the game at age 28 now that seems unlikely. His limitations are further amplified playing with 8 but for a center I don't think that degree of pace/fluidity limitation is all that manageable. The Caps have another three years on his current deal. It's pretty solid value despite those limitations to a degree but...I don't think you can really win with that limited a center unless basically every other facet of system play around him compensates.

Minus 8/74 in theory in the coming years maybe they can start getting there re: pace/crispness/stamina/energy but it's tough to pin their sloppiness just on those two. What they need are the Next Ones that lead by example. Too often in this series it was just Tom Wilson and a gimpy Protas. What good are other secondary vets really if they're not also in there?

I have some faith Hutson can help. He's got that degree of efficiency and consistency. But the bar for franchise tone-setting is a pretty high one.

GDT was fine. How you put the GDT thread together and who does it, has nothing to do with lack of goal scoring!

Right...No shit. He said he would own up to the shitty GDT. Crickets thus far.

Bad vibes when a user going by 895 (when Ovi has 897), posts the possibly last GDT when A-Bro said he would do it. Same person has Kuzy as his avatar in a Ruzzian jersey. Double epic woof.

Didn't know that stuff. I will say, some games the GDT's start too late. I saw this one and jumped into it!

Of course there’s going to be a lot of bad feelings and doom and gloom right after getting eliminated (especially when the series was ugly), it’ll clear up in time and people will realize on the whole it was a good season and there’s a lot of positives to look forward to.

Hard not to be disappointed, but Carolina was better everywhere.

These were the right lines, but too late.

Lots to be optimistic about, but I still want to puke.

Yeah it was fun. The most disappointing part for me is losing a key player with the few remaining regular season games that meant nothing. Teams work hard all year to win home ice etc and then tired when it is important. Older teams will pay the price from a long successful regular season. At least the Canes spared us an OT loss. Ovy and Carlson have to accept lesser roles next season. That means no more fulltime PP duties.

I didn’t see many if any adjustments until the last game. I thought McMichael helped at 3rd C but the lack of team speed, stamina, quick decisions really hamstrung them.

Despite it all they were in every game until their goaltender shit his pants.
Even by my goalie standards I dislike those goals LT let get by him, but at the same time there is lineup of forwards/d-man to play as a team! If the goalie is bit off, then the D and Forwards pick it up for the goalie and vice versa! Caps didn't play well enough as a team to score more goals against the Canes.

Andersen showed better poise at times than LT, but remember LT had only played 4 playoff games prior compared to his 10 playoff games alone for this season. Andersen now has 80 playoff games of experience, 2.36 GAA, .916 SV%. A couple more playoff games and Andersen will have played his 2nd most games in a playoff season since '15 playoffs(16)! LT finished this playoffs 5-5, 2.41 GAA, .917 SV%. All together he is 7-7, 2.40 GAA, .918 SV%. Compare LT's 1st playoff stint with the Caps and with other Caps goalies of the past, and show me how much worse or better he did than the others?! If I recall, Kolzig/Holtby(the two best goalies in Caps playoff history) had to deal with very similar issues not getting enough goal support when both started their playoff careers!

Going back to that 2nd Canes goal, the puck had eyes because LT never saw that puck come off the stick blade of Svechnikov! Honestly, I still don't know how that went in! Did it change direction off any Caps players?

Tip of the hat to the scrappy canes.

f*** you Rod. At least we didn't have to endure watching the kooky storm surge.

Go Cats or Stars.
I can't wait to see all the crazy facial expressions that Florida is gonna drive Rod to make. 🤣 I hope the Cats beat the shit out of the Canes. f*** Carolina.
