Good season.

Good...not great.

Carbery, you failed miserably this series. This is very much on you. Your stubbornness failed you, all the young Turk you showed this season you pissed away just like that. You didn’t know your opponent well, you didn’t have them prepared, you made changes too late, and leaving OV out there late in the game with pretty much normal shifts was INEXCUSABLE. You aren’t who we thought you were. You were utterly ABUSED by Brindamour.

Very, very, very little elevation on this roster at this point. Not super surprising when relying on a 39-year old franchise winger and 35-year old #1D. But they also probably need to thin the ranks a bit. Sandin? What's he good at exactly? Dowd was one of their worst players this series...just as bad or worse than Eller. McMichael at 3C seemed just fine. Probably should have went to it earlier.

They just do not keep the legs churning...not even with the season on the line. Too much passive spectating and indecision. For me it's the 8/74 combo and then another skating-challenged key core player in Strome that basically defines and limits them as a team. The rest of the roster isn't explosive enough to withstand that degree of sag, particularly when it comes to the PP and how easily PP1 can be handled (regardless of 74 or no 74).

All year doesn’t really matter, the last game does. That’s how it is in sports. I think we can recognize both.
I think we can also recognize the only way he would have won this game is by giving up 0 goals. I called out the first goal in this thread as being brutal. The Caps offense all series was absolutely putrid. There’s plenty of blame to go around.

Good season. ‘Canes were better when it counted. Lot of great moments for Caps in what was expected to be a rough transition year. Think we played our best hockey in November, December, January when some opponents maybe weren’t taking us seriously enough. Got Ovie the record after he broke his leg and got to the 2nd round - no one would have called that when the year started

I think Strome is flexible enough that he could do well with a non-Ovechkin forward. Too bad it'll be over a year before we find out.

McMikey and Leonard looked really good together tonight. Just a ton of natural chemistry.

I didn’t see many if any adjustments until the last game. I thought McMichael helped at 3rd C but the lack of team speed, stamina, quick decisions really hamstrung them.

Despite it all they were in every game until their goaltender shit his pants.

Agenda this off season is continue to get younger and faster. And I don't care if that means getting rid of stalwarts who have been here a long time. Time to take a hike you're too slow.

Eller thankfully won't be back to waste a roster spot. Mangiapane we can upgrade from. Carlson's last year thankfully is next year, you might be able to trade him as an expiring deal.

There's flexibility.

We'll have Huston soon enough. I have confidence he will be our next #1D for the next 15 years. All we can do now is hope that one of Leonard/Cristall/Miro/Lil Pro become gamebreakers. The season after next is when I'll stop being satisfied by the 2018 cup win.

well that sucks a bit. thank you guys, for all the great moments this season - there were plenty of them. the tough ones don't really matter because at the end of the day, it's still just hockey. what matters most is that tonight you'll go to sleep in a comfortable bed, wake up in the morning, and return to your normal lives surrounded by the people you love. and guys on ice too. cheers and see ya in a few months!
