From what I am hearing on the street, it sounds like many teams will look a lot different from this past season. A few players asking to be traded, a few 17 yr olds quitting hockey and the obvious graduating players will change roster. I can see one or two teams having less then ten returning players on roster at showcase. Is this normal for CCHL? I think 4 years of hockey costing close to $25K is making players think twice now if they know they will never get a free ride in NCAA.

Grant Hebert from Cumberland Grads has announced he will be playing for a Fargo Force in USHL next season. Another big loss for CCHL and I think there might be a few more gone besides the graduating players from last season.

My understanding is that Marc Franche (ex Grads) is the one that is putting this together, mostly for kids attending LBP High School. I think wifey is a teacher there also, so I'm not sure if this is really a CCHL money grab thing.

This basically sounds like what Brockville, Cornwall and CP set up last season. Not sure how successful they were.

I heard they are setting up these programs with schools so it is easier to bring imports into the region. I know there were many families interested in playing u18AAA from Quebec, Southern Ontario, USA and other regions so why not setup a program that would entice more players into area.

I have no opinion on this because we are past this stage. If programs are built and people interested then I guess it is successful just don't make it mandatory to join.

Will this be same partnership that NHL has with USHL....answer is no.

Rather see Sens teach some CCHL teams how to run a successful hockey operation, have a coach mentor that make sure things are run properly for player development starting at u18AAA.

That program might be good for players in Ottawa but what about the rural players? Oh yeah, HEO doesn't care about them.

Honestly, I prefer my kids playing other high school sports to work different muscles.

Congratulations to Cumberland Grads head coach Sylvain Favreau who will be leaving CCHL to become an assistant coach with the Halifax Mooseheads. Big loss for CCHL but coaches are just like players wanting to move up to the next level.

Great for Sylvain. Great for CCHL. Nice to see that some people are willing to work there way up by taking an assistant coaches job.
Who is the next coach in Cumberland?

Ottawa
Ottawa acquires Cameron Hebert & send Jackson Alexeev, Curtis Fabbro and Mathieu Talbot to Cumberland. Ottawa then packages Hebert with Zachary Cross to Cornwall receiving Nick Lalonde.

As expected, OJS have been busy. Look to be building a strong team. Although their U18 coach might not be quite so impressed. I think they only have 1 returning player from last year's team. Still time for him to get traded, I guess.

Lots of trading of minor aged hockey players.

HEO is hosting Telus Cup Regionals this year so wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to stack one HEO team so they can be competitive. All minor aged players traded will be good CCHL players if they stick around.

OJS got even stronger picking up Owen Guy from Kemptville this week and who knows what imports are coming because Fred Page Cup host should bring in some good talent. So far this looks like the team to beat but I imagine CP will be in top 2 again.

Guy is supposed to be starting at Lake Superior State in Sept 2017. Did he un-commit or just delaying a year ?
