LeBrun: CBJ will be looking for a 1st round pick for Provorov once they are ready to move him

Depending on how well Provorov can play on the right side and how well the Sabres do the rest of this season I could see Buffalo being a trade partner. Buffalo needs RHD. Provorov taking Jokiharju's place next to Owen Power would be a massive help. If the Sabres are sitting in 6th-8th in the conference around the deadline I could see them interested. No playoffs in 13 years - the fans are desperate for success. And since we're in year 13 of the rebuild the Sabres are pretty rich on picks and prospects and can part with some assets there. Buffalo does not need D on the left so yeah, how comfortable is Provorov on the right permanently and do the Sabres stay in playoff contention?

The rumors are driven mostly by "Oh, look, a hyped prospect is in Columbus and things aren't 100% perfectly according to plan. TRADE TRADE TRADE TRADE TRADE GIMMIE GIMMIE"

His agent is Alan Walsh; that's most of what one needs to know. The rest is just an ongoing development issue (he's not strong enough on his skates and it affects his play decisions).
Gotcha, so Jiricek is not going anywhere.

Begs the question, why is CBJ not ready to move him at this moment if a team offered up a first for him?

There is something to be said for some stability and learning to win. CBJ was expected to be a bottom 2 team this year (sure, they may still be, but doesn't seem likely with the coaching and improved play), but thus far they are middle of the pack 1/4 of the way through the season. Why not let that continue and see if they can hang on. They just got Voronkov and Johnson back and the addition of Fabbro seems like a good one. There is no need to rush the young defensemen and Provorov has been solid in all areas, including the room. There is zero reason to move him right now. They haven't given up on the year, he hasn't asked for a trade, he isn't a malcontent and he actually offers value to this team.

Don't know for sure, but in addition to @Xoggz22's reasoning above, I would also point out that we'd potentially be interested in keeping him at least 'till we're ready to start giving Mateychuk heavy minutes.

I could be wrong. But I thought when the Jackets played Boston the other night someone on the broadcast mentioned he was healthy scratched the game before?

Good luck getting a first for healthy scratches in Columbus.
Well he has played in all 20 of the Jackets games so far so I guess your first sentence was right.
