The one year of Swayman not below 2.5, playing on the worst Boston team in years, is the new normal?

So maybe the team in front has something to do with it and the goalie is only as good as the play in front of him in many cases.Bobrovsky 2023 3.07 GAA

Nah, we can only get better, a lot of young talent, a lot of cap space, good contracts for the most partSadly, I think this year was lightning in a bottle and that run is over. I hope I am wrong, but I predict a return to true Jackets hockey next year. Bad, but not bad enough to get a franchise player.
I think Tarasov has potential to be a decent backup, but we definitely need a proven starterI’d ride Tarasov the rest of the season … he’s actually been really good since Jan .. as mentioned 13 goals against in the past 5 games … Elvis with 25 in last 5 and 2/3 of game .. Elvis is bought out this summer , do we know enough on Tarasov to let him walk ? From my understanding Jet has a one way contract next year as does Tarasov
Maybe. Maybe not. But his stats this year aren't exactly encouraging.Bobrovsky 2023 3.07 GAA

I think he’s calmer in the net, a little thicker, not as mentally weak and knows what a winning org looks like. He even has 4 shutouts this year, Elvis has 4 over the last 4 years total. Why would we think he'd be any better here on this team?
This is my fear too. A lot of playoff teams are locked into making it again next year, and the fringe teams are looking to get better too.Sadly, I think this year was lightning in a bottle and that run is over. We've been a pretty sh*tty team. Imagine how bad he's been in the other games to have 4 shutouts and still have those numbers. If Boston is that bad and he has those numbers, imagine how much people here would complain at paying him 8+ a year for having similar numbers to Elvis currently.I think he’s calmer in the net, a little thicker, not as mentally weak and knows what a winning org looks like. Knowing Evason, Elvis is back next gameI would be completely fine if that was Elvis' last game in Columbus. His mental game will just never. get. there.
JJ and Provorov as the 1st choice as PK defenseman is insane.Absolutely clown show PK. Who actually thinks JJ is a good Pker? Unbelievably bad
Agreed. I think it's either going to be a buyout or maybe a trade to a team desperate for goaltending. Maybe Philadelphia? This one really feels different. I just watched the postgame and I have never seen this group or this coach this mad about a game - and its clear they're mad about the goaltending letting them down. I wouldn't be surprised if they're done with Elvis.
That said, Tarasov has had worse stretches. Like .700 bad for 2 or 3 starts in a row. It's really the timing of this with only 8 games left, I think we're at a point where we might ride Tarry and Jet the rest of the way and say goodbye to Elvis this summer.
As soon as I saw that Jack Johnson was in instead of Severson, I had a bad feeling about this one.

The issue I think is who they replace him with. I don't think Tarasov's an option. I guess Allen and Lyon are the two interesting UFA options. Of the two, I'd personally prefer Lyon (more consistently good GSAx numbers) but I assume they'd prefer Allen (more experienced). It's hard for me to see any proven good goaltender realistically being available via trade. Swayman and Saros are not beyond the realm of possibility, I suppose, but highly unlikely and risky to boot at this juncture. After the Merzlikins contract, I'm not so sure that CBJ have much appetite for bringing in a struggling goaltender on a long-term deal anyway. Maybe they take a chance on Brossoit healing up next year after all?
Shesterkin still has solid GSAx numbers but he has an NMC.If we retain, someone will take in Elvis as a tandem goalie at $2.7m x 2. Yes the bigger question is who we go with.
I've also wondered about Shesterkin - higher upside but super risky for the same reason that Swayman and Saros are super risky.
Ottawa made the right type of trade that we would want to make - a simple upgrade of one goalie for a better goalie, adding in a first rounder. But who is our Ullmark?

EDIT: Oh, he has an M-NTC this season. Personally, I'd love to see Columbus make that trade.
Shesty has a 10 team list until July when the new deal kicks in with a full NMC. So there's a decent chance we're on that list. But who knows, maybe he really likes Marchy or really doesn't want to go out West.
why are we even talking about shesterkin possibly being traded? that’s comical and absolutely naive. I get it, he has underperformed this season but they literally just signed him to be their 1C for the next 6+ years (I say 6 instead of the 8 that he signed for since the chances will be greater when it comes to getting traded near the end of his contract)
I agree with a lot of your posts but this one has me scratching my head… the thought of shesterkin being traded the year after signing the largest goalie contract of all time lol.
I think comical and naive might be the words for it, if the Rangers are foolish enough to trade Shesterkin. And it wouldn't shock me.
