Line Combos: CBJ Roster Discussion/Line Combos/Injury Report

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
I maybe wouldn’t put Monahan back with the Russians right away (so he can get his wind and not to hold back the other two at the start) but I would certainly go back to Monahan between them when he got up to speed.
No need to… with Monahan coming off wrist surgery , Porty speculated they will be cautious … Fantilli has 22 points in last 22 games .. With Boone now back , if Monahan comes back and they play it safe , Boone can slide to that 2nd Center position if needed . They key right now is getting healthy forwards back to bolster the lineup .. We have been making this run without Monahan, Chinakov .. getting those 2 guys back is better than any trade you acquisition you could bring in ..

JVR’s contribution is overlooked not only among NHL fans but by many Blue Jackets fans, too.
Is it? Many of us want him left on the 2nd line. I also think he's had an impact not just in a leadership role in the room but I feel like the team has adopted the understanding of how valuable netfront play and shooting for tips has become. Don't think it's a coincidence that has increased this year

If Monahan can’t take faceoffs then have Voronkov take them. I’d still reunite that line at some point if possible.

I just love the fact that we really don't need to classify this team based on "line" levels of historical nature. I view this group as an interchangeable group in general. JVR is a great example. He can play with a scoring line or bring something different to an energy group. He can play with KJ or Olivier and support what is needed. Boone, Sillinger, Chinakhov (when healthy)...so many off so much flexibility. As they younger players continue to grow (they really have to continue to grow and not stagnate) this team could become very dominant with the structure and group they have. Upgrades can be strategic and truly push for higher end players.

Very exciting time, for a change. All that said, I think a complimentary forward that fits the current model would be ideal to add further depth. I still feel like we will need to re-tool the defense a little in the off season but if this is what we have for a playoff push, I think it's solid enough to make some noise and push us to the playoffs. I was a "you have to move Provorov" guy, but I'm comfortable with keeping him. Especially how this team is playing together.

I also find it refreshing that, in general, we haven't had much to complain about with Elvis and Tarasov. Perfect? No, but Elvis, to me, has played at a very solid level the last couple months and may have put himself in the conversation to not be bought out or moved this off season. Maybe he still is, but I think he's earned some praise, certainly from me.

Just a lot of words, but, boy is it great to have a positive outlook on just about everything with this team and knowing we haven't felt we need another complete overhaul. Kudos to the management group and coaches for getting this out of the team in a touch year.

According to hockey-reference.com Voronkov has only taken 30 faceoffs all year at a 42% win percentage. LDBB took more when he was up here.

And for those who think this makes Fantilli a smarter choice than Monahan to center that line, that's still better than Fantilli's faceoff percentage.

**And if you're concerned about winning possession on draws then you should be especially aware of how much better Monahan is than Fantilli at playing the possession game**

Yeah that's sort of what I'm reacting to.

What am I missing here? Is my sense of organizational priority just different from Waddell's? Or does he think Fabbro's camp is asking for too much?
I'm guessing the 2nd. I wouldn't be shocked if Fabbro is trying to leverage the current situation into either a bigger or longer deal and Waddell is just playing a game of chicken

Since this hasn’t been resolved, I think he wants to hit free agency. Which might be a mistake on his end, but maybe he wants someplace different than Nashville and Columbus. Maybe he said early on he wanted to test free agency, the Jackets made a couple of decent offers after he worked well with Werenski, but he said no. It would explain the silence on both ends.

It did come to mind that he might end up back in Vancouver.

For a guy who was on waivers recently it's not a smart risk, but he might just have that belief that his play down the stretch will speak for itself.

The one time he got to choose where he would play he chose Boston for BU. So I could see Vancouver or a big East Coast city. Or maybe he has a girlfriend who wants some say in where they live.

I could also see Waddell being cool letting Fabbro test free agency and finding out that he isn’t as valuable as he thinks he is.

I have no idea who Fischer is, so I went to an advanced stats site or two, and...

...suffice to say I am uninspired. But whatever, it's a waiver claim.
