Moderate buyers.

Will look to buy players at a smaller price. Doesn’t want to deal our firsts.

I mean it makes sense. We don't want to high for a rental, but a depth piece type like Nyquist that MM has been pushing makes sense. Someone that can act as a stop gap and still play a role in the playoffs if by some miracle they actually make it. No need to give up pieces that could be crucial if he wants to go big game hunting this off-season.

Yeah I rather keep the 1st round picks for the draft, just in case a big name becomes available. Also with so many teams in the hunt and with the injuries they have currently, would suck to use assets that could be useful at the draft now, only to miss the playoffs.

Yeah I'm a big fan of loading up on picks and using them if the right deal doesn't come along. I don't care how stocked and loaded the pool is, it's strictly a numbers game and you can never have too many. If you have enough picks and prospects your bound to hit on a few eventually.

I don't think LDBB has the time in the nhl to do this deal, it's probably Sillinger or chinakov if we get involved.

For Dobson? I really don't think so, Dobson is only on the market because they think he is overvalued and they want to use him to go big game hunting - bigger than Sillinger for sure. Chinakhov doesn't have that value just because of the risk with his back. If he was healthy though I do think he is a top line caliber winger.

Voronkov seems like he'd be their sort of target, and I would definitely not do that. The utility of a player like Dobson, who can score but doesn't defend well, isn't as high when you've got the top offensive and PP minutes covered by Werenski. His possession metrics are stronger than his defensive rep (somewhat analogous to Severson) but I am more interested in guys who defend hard.

If two of the three of Monahan, Chinakov and Jenner will be ready in a few weeks, I'm not so sure that a Schenn or Nelson-type are necessary.

I still think a cheaper acquisition like Nyquist makes a lot of sense (or a guy with term like Bjorkstrand), but the timing window for us to be buyers is closing a bit for me. As I was saying a month ago, we need help to get through to get guys back, and if we wait until the deadline to buy, the team will likely have fallen to shit. I think they're playing like shit right now though they have picked up enough points to stay in the race so far.

If the price is a “top-end scoring forward” the only one of those we have is Marchenko. Voronkov and KJ might be on the way to being “top-end scoring forwards” but they aren’t there yet. Other people (Sillinger, LDBB, etc) aren’t close. So the question is “Are you willing to trade Marchenko for Dobson?”

There's no way you trade Voronkov, Kent, or Marchenko for Dobson. Those guys are going nowhere and rightfully so. Dobson would be an insane pickup, essentially another Zach Werenski but not yet at Zach's level. Im pretty sure that would be a welcome addition. The cost however, especially midseason wouldnt make sense. If they want Chinkahov and a 2nd, I think about it. Sillinger and 1st, that's a trade you should definitely do. I doubt either of those options get it done so might be better off exploring options in the offseason.

I think they are looking at Taylor Hall - Adam Larsson as a comp. Hall had put up 80 and 65 points in Edmonton. So he rates as a top end scoring forward. Marchenko might not even get it done, but certainly Sillinger, Chinakhov, or LDBB are not what the Islanders are looking for. So we might as well close the book on acquiring Dobson.

Marchenko is untouchable. Fabbro may not be a game changing type player but he looks good next to Werenski. That’s good enough.

We can set our sights on a 2nd or third pairing shutdown RD. It doesn’t need to be an all star quality guy. And if we keep Provorov, we probably don’t even need to add that either for another year when Gudbranson walks.

Both of those options are pretty meh. It almost makes sense to do very little and keep building for the future. I agree Dobson feels out of reach especially since it looks like they want to flip him to VAN for EP40.

I've been saying this for a bit but Pulock or Pelech would make sense. Both under contract for a bit, both good defensive dmen, that's something that'd be useful for this team. Pulock plays the right and Pelech the left side, both make around 6 million a year.

Acquire a defensive dman to stop gap the next couple years and hope Jenner, Monny, Marchenko, and Chinny are enough offense to get them into the playoffs.
