Line Combos: CBJ Roster Discussion/Line Combos/Injury Report

The tweeter suggests that Vancouver management loves Sillinger and links Severson to them as well due to the healthy scratches. Don’t think Provorov as a UFA to be is very attractive.

I know we’d have to add from my package I listed but it’s close to the framework they were suggesting (which was the Eichel deal)
If you are talking about Taj, I don't know who that is. The Severson part looked like pure speculation to me. Provorov makes sense if Vancouver are still looking to make a playoff push.

Pettersson's contract is bad enough
i think he'd kick so much ass here that, combined with the cap increases, the contract would not be bad whatsoever.
that if we're sending substantial futures to Vancouver in the deal, that we should also be sending some bad long term salary (Severson?) too.
severson being in the deal instead of provorov is such an appealing thought that the (ever-shrinking) reasonable part of my brain refuses to even consider it, as the universe is incapable of smiling so fondly upon the columbus blue jackets.

if don waddell is able to:
  • get pettersson for severson + sillinger + a propsect + two 1sts
  • recoup one of those 1sts in a provorov trade
  • take a cap dump defenseman to backfill provorov's spot
that's a "build this guy a statue" level move

You do tend to have an affinity for extremely moody players who are made of glass and have ginormous egos.... so that checks out.
that's what i get for defending patrik laine one (hundred) times on this forum… (he sucks now though)

that deal sucks for us
none of the pieces going the other way are going to be anywhere near as good as pettersson, who is an elite two-way 1C who can play all situations. it sets the top of the roster in stone for the long haul at the cost of guys on the periphery, and allows the team to fill out the bottom half of the roster with guys who fit those roles better.

Hearing Waddell allude to wanting to make a hockey trade with regards to Provorov in the event of a playoff race in his interviews with Marek and Scheig got me thinking.

There have previously been talks of Provorov to Utah. If Utah too want to push for the playoffs, would a deal based around Provorov for Kesselring be at all likely? Utah have Durzi and Marino on the right-hand side that should be back soon as well as Lamoureux coming up. If they could add and re-sign Provorov, that would strengthen their left-hand side significantly, while Columbus get a young up-and-coming RHD to play in the top 4 moving forward.

I suppose Utah don't really need to rush anything and, since Kesselring is cheap, can keep him on the third pair or as a 7D. But that's a trade that would intrigue me.

A few weeks ago I inquired about Kesselring on the Utah board:

Do you expect Kesselring to be part of your D core for foreseeable future or could he become available for a trade before his contract expires?
Response:
Core. Not available.

Okay found the full thing from EF on Pettersson rumors for transparency:

“I think the Rangers are a team that's looking to both sell and add. You know, Columbus, I wonder if they're around Vancouver at all. There's fits there, I think, but, you know, it looks, you know, it looks pretty magical in Columbus right now.

You know, considering what they've had to deal with, like the worst of the worst, you know, they're playing really well right now and they're really battling, they're really overachieving. And I wonder if they want to be careful with, you know, mucking around with that chemistry. They do seem to have a little something special this year.”

Extra tidbit to this: The Vancouver report came out like 2 hours after this. I wonder if they just piggy backed off of this. The Taj account was sneaky and left out the extra information from EF.

I hope so because I am just sighing at all the speculation of us trading Z, Fantilli, Mateychuk, Kent Johnson and all of our 1sts for EP which is ironic because the same fanbase said you couldn't trade a 50% Johnny Hockey after a bad year.

A few weeks ago I inquired about Kesselring on the Utah board:
Response:
Marino and Durzi are still out. They'll keep Kesselring around for the rest of the season, and when activated, move Lamoureux to Tucson. Valimaki seems to be the odd one out. They'll reevaluate Kesselring during the off season, unless if they can trade him for a center.

Now in the first wildcard spot by points percentage. Washington and Toronto lead their divisions, and I honestly would prefer to see either of them round one over the other top 3 metro teams which are Carolina and New Jersey. Also the two Florida teams are 2nd and 3rd in the Atlantic hopefully will stay put, because again I would rather see Toronto than either of them.

The real surprise that opened things up is the Rangers implosion. I did not expect that whatsoever and it really gives us a realistic chance to take a spot. Werenski should get a Norris consideration boost if this team makes the playoffs, he's been our MVP with Marchenko right after him.
