• Defensemen Zach Werenski returned to Saturday’s game after suffering a left leg injury when he slammed into the boards early in the third period. He returned to play but was clearly hobbled. The Philadelphia Flyers scored all five goals with him on the ice. Evason had an alarming quote after the game, saying Werenski’s injury “seized up” in the third period and overtime. As of Sunday morning, the Blue Jackets did not have an update on Werenski. They aren’t scheduled to practice, either.

I only watched the goal highlights so I have no idea how bad he looked out there in general after getting banged up, but that out of the way... If it turns out Werenski ends up missing time and it's reasonable to believe continuing playing made the injury worse, one might question if blowing a game you should've won was worth it.

Honestly, I think the recall of Mateychuk from Cleveland right now means that he is questionable for tomorrow for sure.

Based on his play in Cleveland, Mateychuk is probably ready for a taste of the NHL independent of Z's possible injury.

He may never see the AHL again. If he can hang in the NHL then let him develop against the best.

Now can some of you withhold your criticism of his game and the mistakes he will inevitably make while he grows into his game in the NHL? Let me answer that…….probably not
Look man, if he doesn't score 3 goals on his first 3 shots, finish +7, get a Gordie Howe hat-trick and hip check Gallagher into the 200 level, then he's a BUST.

So Greaves is the backup but he gets his AHL money most days? His contract is $800k for NHL and $250k for AHL this season. Yes, it is the contract he signed, but I doubt he expected to be treated like this.

I feel like that is the hype he is being given honestly. People talk like he's going to step into the lineup and be a Norris contender from day one.
Saying he’s better than Provorov and Fabbro, and our best option with Werenski, is not the same as saying he’ll be a Norris quality defenseman in year 1.

My god.

Seriously.

The bar isn't exactly super high when it comes to defensemen that can actually defend on this team. Mateychuk will be a welcome addition.

What exactly are people expecting if they’re worried about disappointment? He’s going to be lightyears ahead of Jiricek, and frankly, probably going to be the 2nd best rookie defenseman we’ve ever had. Maybe that says more about the rookie D-men we’ve had, but IMO he’ll be an easy plug and play guy.

I guess I have high expectations, but I also have near complete faith that I won’t be disappointed.

Its also high expectations for a guy who has not played a regular season game in the NHL yet.

“If you don't have expectations then you can't be disappointed” is a much better slogan than “March with us” — maybe you should make a blue flag with that slogan on it.
All Out, All Season was a good one when they half assed everything for part of a season to the 2nd worst point total in team history up to this point.

He’s far from a finished product. Nor is he going to compete for a Norris this year, but he deserves a lot of the hype. The kid is an incredible skater and going to be a great fit for the way we play.

I do expect him to make mistakes, but I also expect people will see flashes of what makes him special. Similar to what we saw with Werenski. I can’t wait.

From CBJ.com
“When it comes to Mateychuk, the evidence [of making the NHL] on his side has been a preseason in which he’s often looked to be ready. In four games, Mateychuk posted two goals and an assist, and when he was on the ice at 5-on-5, the Blue Jackets outshot teams 42-15 and outscored them 5-2”
Dean Evason:
“He’s a good player, right?” Evason said. “We'll see what shakes out here, but what he has shown clearly, he’s been that guy for a long time. He’s going to be an NHL player for a long time. If he starts here, wonderful. If he doesn’t, his development is going to be continually steady because of what we’ve seen and how he’s played. He’s gotten better and better.”
